Primary schools in Angus

Hello Scotsnet, we're looking to relocate to Angus and hoping to make the move by August '21 so daughter can start P3 there (we're currently in Cornwall).

We're quite flexible on the area, ideally something rural or semi-rural but will consider small towns too.

Any good primary schools between say Dundee and Montrose?

I’m just outside Montrose, Aberdeenshire side, only one I hear bad things about is South Esk, Lochside probably the best. Steer clear of Brechin and probably Arbroath. Monifieth and Broughty Ferry are nice areas and close to Dundee.

Thank you MillyMoo!

If it’s Montrose I’d avoid Lochside and Borrowfield. Southesk is a nice school just not in the best catchment area, there’s also Rosemount and Ferryden on the outskirts of town.
Timmergreens in Arbroath could be an option, there’s not a lot in Brechin but school wise I’d go Andover over Maisondieu.😀

Also remember that you need to be looking at the High School even more than the primary as the primary years go fast and at that age their main influences are still at home. Teen years are different and it's good to get them into an appropriate setting for them. That said, they can get into the "wrong crowd" anywhere so a good fit is more important than necessarily the one with the best exam scores (sporty/busy/vibrant/quiet/academic/supportive etc)

Thanks for the recommendations! Will look all the schools up.

That's so true about the high school years, totally agree. We're currently saving up for a private secondary school, thinking High School of Dundee, which is why we're looking to move to the Dundee area.

Ah, that's good you have a plan. Maybe make sure you have reasonable access to any school transport for the high school then?

I know it seems far away but believe me it will be here before you know it.

I know, life's going so fast once you become a parent, doesn't it @WaxOnFeckOff
