This is an ongoing thread for Scottish mumsnetters - or indeed non Scottish mumsnetters such as myself, to comment on ongoing covid matters pertinent to ourselves, in a hopefully not too partisan and friendly fashion.

In the scheme of things this is not important, but I’m in need of a trip to IKEA. I had planned to go and get ideas for redesigning a couple of rooms. I also need some of their zip-seal bags! I’m in a L3 and it’s being unable to plan / do relatively mundane things that is starting to drag.

runningpink · 28/11/2020 19:53

Thanks @Bikingbear I needed that hug today. Had plans to meet a local friend for first time in three weeks I would have had actually company (I am out working but not the same as spending time with friends) and she had to cancel. Genuine reason but still gutted.

I’m not coping with the loneliness at all but this chat definitely helps. So thank you all!

@Christmasbiscuit what area are you in? Could maybe meet for a socia distanced walk on Christmas Day. Or How about a wee virtual Prosecco or two on Christmas Day so we feel less alone. And anyone else of course!

rookiemere · 28/11/2020 19:55

Sorry but I really doubt Edinburgh will be moved at all tier wise before Christmas. Was just talking about this to a friend, we can understand why it's in Tier 3 - proximity to the other areas - but surely due to the low numbers some tweaking could be allowed - opening restaurants to 8pm would make such a difference for people on their own for example who are working and unable to meet a friend during the day.

waxon glad you've managed to get your DH out, and great they've managed to come up with a compromise.

running That's pretty shit. I'm sorry to hear that. Is there anyone you can meet for the obligatory sit on a park bench in the pishing rain?

theotherfossilsister I'm totally with you on the need for an evening meal with a glass of wine. It's hardly an unreasonable demand, frankly... However, sadly I don't think Edinburgh will move. The numbers seem to be stubbornly hovering around 80- 90 per 100,000 and not really falling steadily. And though we're the lowest of the level 3s, there is quite a leap to the highest of the level 2s (around 60ish I think.) Though the %positivity rate has finally fallen below 5% (4.7% as the latest 7 day average) so solidly where level 2 should be, if we hadn't binned the indicator thresholds.

titsbumfannythelot · 28/11/2020 20:18

Has anyone noticed that they've launched asymptomatic testing in east and south Ayrshire? I'm interested to see how this pans out, not least because we have family in SAC.

So sorry you're feeling lonely running, I hope we sort this shit show out soon Thanks

runningpink · 28/11/2020 20:18

@NotAnActualSheep majority of my friends are level 3 and I am level 2.
And the ones who are also single will be with family at Christmas.
I will be fine

runningpink · 28/11/2020 20:20

I have plenty of things I can be doing and I force myself to exercise most days but it’s the company I crave.

NotAnActualSheep · 28/11/2020 20:31

Yes, I can totally understand that running. No matter how much you get on with your own company or people at work or whatever, you just can't beat a chat with friends over whatever drink you fancy. And digital equivalents aren't the same, at all!

Direwolfwrangler · 28/11/2020 20:33

Hugs @runningpink This is all really shit.

WouldBeGood · 28/11/2020 20:36

@runningpink where are you? Roughly?

runningpink · 28/11/2020 20:40

Thanks all but I don’t deserve the hugs. There are so many more people who have had this much tougher than me. Trying to juggle childcare, isolating, job losses etc so I know I just need to get on with it

I am in the Scottish Borders

It doesn't matter if others have it worse. If you feel sad, you feel sad. We're social beings - this is an utterly unnatural way to live. WineThanks

littlbrowndog · 28/11/2020 22:08

Edinburgh here. No chance for us to go,out of dirty 3 tier.

But omg to go out after 6 pm forva drink and a pizza.

littlbrowndog · 28/11/2020 22:10

No running pink it’s shite for all off us.

Keep going. Keep laughing here with us

WouldBeGood · 28/11/2020 22:35

That's it exactly. This is a shite way to life. On other parts of MN some people are very "Oh it's one Christmas we shouldn't be allowing people to meet" but really is a small window to give people a chance to be together after months of SD. Realistically for tier 4 areas it will be spring before friends will next be allowed in the house. I keep thinking once we get into January the daylight gets better. And Spring doesn't seem so far away.

I bet they don't get a high uptake they are both in tier 4 so people will be hoping that if there's less positive cases they might go down to T3.
Bikingbear · 28/11/2020 23:30

I wonder what made them pick Ayrshire?
Rather than any of the other 'shires'

It's only for 2 days so hardly worth it I doubt people will be volunteering to get tested.
Bikingbear · 29/11/2020 00:19

2 days! That makes it sound like a tick box exercise.

titsbumfannythelot · 29/11/2020 07:31

I didn't realise it was only for two days. Not getting tested is daft and apparently the asymptomatic testing helped Liverpool obtain a lower tier after their lockdown ends this week.

RaspberryCoulis · 29/11/2020 08:22

It's all kicking off on our local Facebook page. Carnage at a local car park near a forest park, because it's in East Dunbartonshire and the bigger car parks are across the border in Stirlingshire and therefore AGAINST THE RULES.

Another woman kicking off about a large supermarket being busy on a Saturday afternoon, 4 weeks before Christmas, when nothing else is open. Failing spectacularly to realise that she's part of the problem. A busy supermarket on a Saturday afternoon? Who could have imagined it! Hmm

anon444877 · 29/11/2020 09:18

Yes it doesn't have to be 4 weeks before Christmas for a supermarket to be busy! The slots for delivery are hard to get again too.

rookiemere · 29/11/2020 09:50

I've noticed that the bypass is considerably busier than normal mid week at the minute, and Straiton was carnage level rammed when I went on Friday .
I think it's a mixture of people getting their Christmas shopping in whilst they can and there being feck all else to do. Mind you the car park for our local forest walk - nominally the car park for the poor beleaguered local pub - was also chocca on Saturday. Good for people to get some daylight whilst they can.

Bikingbear · 29/11/2020 09:54

Raspberry your allowed to travel 5 miles across the boundary for exercise.

Which is even more bonkers, I live close to the boundary so my family can come and meet in a park near me. But because they are further from the boundary on their side I can't go and meet in a park near them. Bonkers!!!
