Bringing in some light

It's hard for everyone right now, by varying degrees granted, and sometimes it's nice to blether. I'd like a thread that doesn't turn into political debate. A Chat if you like with a Scottish perspective that has a gentler vibe. I admire the posters with strong political views, knowledge, interests and thick skins - qualities I lack. But it's not for everyone.

My fig and blackberry candle is lit and my nice coloured gin bottles have wee LED lights in. I feel refreshed after my two week hols but worried about the term to come. Come share what you're doing to bring in some light, your wee treats, autumn booze concoctions or just blether.

I'm reading through the thread , I've got a really similar background to you wax, even down to the family background and what's happened, with parents dying etc. And how you grew up. Even have 2 boys. Weird.

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/10/2020 17:34

OOh that is weird ssd!

And yes to the tasty lamb.

Grin Well yes most of his male offspring are sent to market. But we keep his daughters and his best sons for breeding stock Apologies to all vegans and vegetarians. I've never had a sheep like him. He was sent out with some young females one year but they weren't to his liking so he jumped two fences to get to the older ewes Hmm

I also remember the rag and bone man with his horse and cart and me getting a balloon on a stick from him. Also the coal man delivering coal round the back door, he was black with soot. Does anyone else call guiding going out in the gloshens? God knows where that's from... Probably same place as ben the loaby...

ssd · 25/10/2020 17:38

Guising not guiding

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/10/2020 18:13

rag and bone man! One year he came round, must have been summer as Dbro and I then raided the loaby of duffle coats thinking they wouldn't be missed - we missed them when winter came...

ssd · 25/10/2020 19:38

Lol I bet you did Grin

Goingdooolally · 25/10/2020 22:10

Yes!! Glad to have found you all. I need a bit of sunshine rather than doom and gloom the other thread has descended into.

Off to have a wee read through now....

anon444877 · 26/10/2020 06:51

What are you planning this week to be cheery then? I'm attempting to book a swim for this week here.

ssd · 26/10/2020 08:29

I've got a few days off this week but no one else is off so I'm at a loose end. I'd go walking but it's meant to be pouring all week. And I've had enough of staying in.

Ho hum!

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/10/2020 08:39

8 years ago today we had snow, that's so what 2020 has been lacking. That and Hurricane bawbag #2, an earthquake maybe?

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/10/2020 08:41

Though a proper white christmas would be lovely. Not enough to disrupt travel but enough for a bit of snowman building and crunching about in.

dementedma · 26/10/2020 09:03

Morning all. Hope to drag myself out for a walk but that’s about as exciting as it gets

ssd · 26/10/2020 09:31

Ah, snow would be lovely. I don't mind anything except the rain, it just pisses me right off. Twice yesterday I got ready for a walk, stepped outside and the heavens opened. Bugger that. Did you get it dry @dementedma?

Goingdooolally · 26/10/2020 10:03

Snow would be so nice! We’ve got a fire pit and I’m thinking of getting lots of fairy lights and candles. Getting some nice Christmassy recipes/mulled wine. Also booking Lights at the Botanics which is gorgeous.

This week is looking good. Just been for a run. Back in school tomorrow. A few nice things planned. Coffee with a friend. Haircut. Bit of shopping.

anon444877 · 26/10/2020 12:01

I bought a Christmas cake kit as they're out and it's time to make them soon!

Any Christmas candles to recommend I'm definitely on the hunt for them.

Goingdooolally · 26/10/2020 12:54

Christmas cake - yes definitely, fab idea! I’ll get the kids to help me at the weekend.

grumplass · 26/10/2020 14:11

@WaxOnFeckOff We definitely need a major snow event for 2020

They are usually in the early New Year in the main though, it's unusual to have a big snow before January. But then nothing is impossible, snow is a lot more fun when you don't have to travel anywhere or arrange childcare when your work still insist you go in. Glad those days are past. And who in Dunblane decided to put the school at the top of a hill?

dementedma · 26/10/2020 14:32

Got soaked on my walk but all very nice and drippy in the woodland, so not too bad. My cake is already make, as re my mince pies. I’m smugger than a smug thing in Smugsville

grumplass · 26/10/2020 14:49

Lucky you @dementedma I am on an endless Skype call looking out the window at the leaves blowing off the trees! Away for a walk after this!

Oh please God no. I've only just recovered from the Beast From The East. We brought the sheep into the sheds and then the snow blew in and covered them there as well.
An artistic sprinkling of snow perhaps

I got a spiced pomegranate and clementine candle from waitrose, about a fiver, doesn't give loads of smell but quite subtle.
ssd · 26/10/2020 16:25

I went a walk too, it actually stayed dry, just around the streets. I never walk in woodland by myself, I'm a scaredy cat thinking a bad man's going to steal me.... Blush
