Test and Protect

Has anyone any experience in being contacted by Test and Protect? DS Developed a cough and fever on Wednesday. He went and got tested and results came back yesterday as positive. DH and I self isolated as household contacts. We looked on the NHS Inform website, followed the self isolating guideline and the advice was

Household members without symptoms must self-isolate for 14 days from the date the first household member developed symptoms or tested positive.

We’ve been contacted by Test and Protect and been told that the 14 days starts 2 days before he developed symptoms! There’s no mention of this on the NHS Inform website. Just wondered if anyone else has been told this or was aware of this as it’s news to me.

Yes the family isolation starts from two days before the onset of symptoms. So at least you should have some of it under your belt by the time the test results come back.

I think I'm wrong there. It is two weeks from the onset of symptoms but you trace contacts from two days before. Did they tell you when isolation ends? Basically the easiest way to do it is to add 4 days onto the end of isolation from your son.

Thanks Northernsoullover. I can’t find any mention of that on the NHS Inform site as it states 14 days from onset of symptoms or positive test. Do you know where I can get the guideline that says 2 days before the onset of symptoms? Thanks

Northernsoullover Yes that’s what I thought too. I think they’ve given us wrong advice. We’ve got texts and it’s only 2 days more than DS.

We were contacted today and I believe the date is 14 days from first symptoms developed

Needthesunshine · 09/10/2020 21:17

Thanks ElizaB22. So my DH got the phone call first and after they explained the isolation period he told them it didn’t match the advice onliine. She was adamant that it was right. A couple of hours later I was phoned by the same person and she told me that she’d spoke to her boss after talking to DH and her boss had confirmed that she had given the right information. Doesn’t give much confidence in the system!

I think she's talking shite.

We are just finishing 14 days isolation, dh had covid.

I've never heard of the 2 days before symptoms advice but we weren't contacted by anyone anyway.

Needthesunshine · 09/10/2020 21:39

ssd DH was trying to explain to her that she was wrong but she wouldn’t listen. He was seething when he came off the phone. She phoned me later and explained that she’d checked with her boss and the info was right. She then phoned DS’s pal and told him the same so who knows how many people have been given wrong info today. Utter shambles!

It is a shambles. Dh had covid and was never contacted!!!

Needthesunshine · 09/10/2020 21:58

No wonder I’ve not got the app! We’ll use our common sense and isolate for 14 days but I’m going to report it to Public Health on Monday.

I deleted the app I was disgusted we weren't contacted.
Good idea to report it though.
