Ski trip 2021

My DS is booked for a ski trip in Jan of next year. Because of Covid we got behind with payments but school was understanding. We need to settle the full amount now but are wondering whether a) it will go ahead or b) if it does go ahead whether they should go. School’s last communication a couple of weeks ago was that they were proceeding until told otherwise and that all final payments should be made. He’s 13 and the trip is to the French Alps.

Anyone else in same boat? We’re in Glasgow.

I would guess it almost certainly won't happen. I would check very carefully what the refund policy is incase it can not go ahead.

It is very complicated if you don't pay in full. The tour company can treat this as cancellation on your part and this can significantly impact on your refund. I run a school excursion that was cancelled at the the last minute due to COVID-19 and because we were all paid up the refund process was very straightforward. My colleagues who lead excursions that were due to take place in June are still chasing refunds through the council insurance for those families hadn't paid in full. They still don't know what they will be entitled to.

Yes, I think it’s it likely to not go ahead but we’ll need to stump up the shortfall and hope for the best. It would be helpful if there was a government directive or something from the council that says all school trips cancelled for the forseeable but I don’t think that would directly translate into a refund situation. Oh well - everything else is up in the air will just add this to the list! Hope to Christ John Swinney has some concrete information about SQA curriculum for Highers next week...

We're still waiting for a full refund for last May's activity week in France. We've had some money back but not the deposit which was £250.

Does anyone know the likelihood of us getting this back? The council is still negotiating with the insurance company (apparently).

Aurea · 04/10/2020 20:07

......we had paid in full.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 04/10/2020 20:10

Ours has been postponed until 2022.

We were advised all the way through lockdown to keep up the payments as per the agreed schedule as otherwise we could be seen as cancelling the place and lose the majority of what we’d already paid.

Received the deposit back finally today (£250) for the school trip in France which was due to take place back in May. Phew!
