Inverness Primary Schools

Hi everyone, looking for some local feedback on the primary schools in Inverness. In particular:
Crown
Central
Drakies
Caldeen
Moving from London to Inverness in October. My child is currently in Year 5 (not sure what that equates to in Scotland).
Would like some honest feed back about the schools, their style of teaching, their results. Private message me if you feel more comfortable.
Thanks for your help.

Welcome to Scotsnet Smile

Can't help with the schools in Inverness (I'm in Glasgow) Wink but if you tell us when your child's birthday is, we can help work out what year she would go into.

Not Caldeen. Crown is known as the best put of those. Any reason why you've chosen those? A few other good ones you've missed.

Year 5 is equivalent to either primary 5 or primary 6 depending on your child's birthday.

I have children at Cawdor...if you decide you fancy being more rural. It is a very good school and lovely area.

If you have any children with ASN pay close attention to the extent of each schools facilities...SEN provision is very poorly distributed across Highland, as well as being incredibly rationed.

Crown or Drakies out of those. Inshes Primary is excellent but very busy this year. Have you got a house yet or are you still looking? If you have a house your child will automatically be give a space in your catchment primary school. If you want a space out with your catchment school you need to put in a placing request which may or may not get approved. If the school is capped too catchment only it won’t be.

Thank you everyone, a helpful response from all of you. @prettybird, my daughter was born March 2011, if that helps to determine the year she will go into.
We have bought a home in Inverness and our Central P/S is our catchment. However, I want to get a feel of what other schools there are and what options. Crown seems to be the choice for everyone, but at the end of the day, they can only take so many. That being the case, there must be other great schools that are just over looked or just not spoken about.
The school websites are not very informative, so the schools I have picked, pretty much had reasonably updated websites. Very hard to get information.
Thank you everyone for your feedback and suggestions. I will have another look with a clearer mind tomorrow.
Cheers.

The good news is that she will be going into P5 - but now will be one of the oldest in the year (only those kids that were deferred will be older) rather than in the middle/young end of the year.

If it's anything like Glasgow, then don't judge the schools too much on their websites. In Glasgow, they were/are constrained by the council as to who/how the site was hosted and the bandwidth with which they could access it. Teachers at ds' old primary school often loaded content from home because otherwise it got in the way of teaching time.

Most/all of the schools have a handbook with info about the school, its ethos, size, etc. If you look on the Highland Council website, under education/learning I think it is, you can search under the name of the school and then download the handbook. They maybe don't put the info on a website, but it is available.

I went to Central growing up. At the time it was considered the best primary. I'd say Crown is considered the best. Plus its a feeder to 2 good secondaries.

If you stayed rurally I'd say Teanassie.

Hi everybody, thank you for your input. It has been extremely helpful. Hopefully we will make a decision by Monday. Have a wonderful weekend. 😍
