This is a disgrace. The fact that testing centres are telling ppl to do this plus an article in the Guardian with ppl telling others to do it. There is also a post in the Corona board telling ppl to do this.

We are all part of the UK. Separatists may not like it but tough.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 17/09/2020 09:21

But health is a devolved issue. So why should Scottish capacity that we've worked to build be given to England, who have fucked almost every aspect of this up?

Arkadia · 17/09/2020 09:23

Reading the article they say:

A Scottish government spokesman said: "No-one should be using false information to gain access to a test and people in the other UK nations should not be using Scottish postcodes."

As always the SG seems to be missing the point.

Scotslassie1 · 17/09/2020 10:58

I would think it's illegal to give a false home address!

Arkadia · 17/09/2020 11:16

That would be a better argument, @scotslassie1 , than the one put forward by the SG.
Another one could be that might create confusion.
For them instead the issue is the fact that the false address (assuming the root problem is the address, I am still not clear) is across the border.

SockYarn · 17/09/2020 11:25

And for many people crossing the border should absolutely be an option. I have relatives in Annan. It's much closer to go to Carlisle then Glasgow.

False postcodes should be used. But that's where is ends. None of this "English people using Scottish postcodes' nonsense.

Callisto1 · 17/09/2020 11:49

It's crazy that this apparently worldbeating test and trace system compels people from London to use an Aberdeen postcode. I don't blame the people just the useless Whitehall government.
It's only going to get worse when the students start coming down with colds and all need testing...

Interesting read re CORONAVIRUS testing availability across the UK -

Journalists Ryan Watts and Katie Gibbons checked 2000 postcodes every hour for 24 hours to find out how many drive-in and walk-in appointments were available in each area.

The pair found that in Scotland the percentage of successful searches between September 16 and 17 was 97% - meanwhile south of the Border the figure stood at 43%.

On the west coast of Scotland 100% of attempts to access testing were successful, while in parts of the north of England this figure stood at less than 20%.

The journalists did not book a test at any point in the study.

In England there is huge pressure on the Government to fix problems in the Test and Trace system. As cases and hospital admissions increase, Matt Hancock has admitted there is a “challenge” in the system.

Access to community testing in England is being rationed because labs are not able to keep up with the demand, and just a third of tests carried out in community testing centres are returned to people within 24 hours.

Community testing centres consist of drive-throughs, walk-in centres and mobile units in hotspot areas.

There have also been reports of people in England booking Covid-19 tests in their local area by using forged Scottish postcodes.

The Scottish Government has urged people not to do this but would not say what impact that cheating the system could have on the Test and Protect scheme in Scotland.

Shadow health secretary Jon Ashworth has urged the UK Government to urgently fix Test and Trace to "avoid further restrictions", adding: "It's become not so much test and trace, more like trace a test."

Experts warn testing problems are going to limit the UK’s ability to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Arkadia · 19/09/2020 19:02

That's probably because they are going through the same frenzy we went through when the schools went back.

FlatShite · 19/09/2020 19:13

I don't understand the posters saying that it's fine to drive tens/hundreds of miles to access a test.

If you have to book a test, that would suggest you are symptomatic so travelling a long distance shouldn't be encouraged.

Gingerkittykat · 19/09/2020 19:20

@JaniceBattersby

Positive Covid test results are allocated to the postcode of the person who is tested, not the test centre.

People should be able to go to the nearest test centre with availability. If that means crossing the border in either direction then there’s no issue with that. If a centre hasn’t got availability then it won’t let people book appointments.

The problem is that people are putting fake postcodes in to be sent to a Scottish test centre.

If someone from London has put and Edinburgh postcode in to get a test in Scotland then the positive will show up as someone living in Edinburgh.

Arkadia · 19/09/2020 19:43

@Gingerkittykat, how is that any different from someone putting a G postcode when living in AB?
