trying to book a driving test

If anyone has kids learning to drive - don't hold your breath for a theory test (or a practical one for that matter). After getting repeated error messages of "the test you are trying to book is not available at this centre" I called them.

No availability for the next 3 months, anywhere in Scotland. Best I could get was 15th of December in Newcastle.

Combination of a backlog, and reduced capacity because of Covid. Hoping for a slot somewhere remote like Tarbert. Or maybe a wee day out in Arran or Oban?

Might get DD4 to book hers as soon as she turns 17 and gets her provisional.

DD3's BF managed to get a practical at the end of October though booked yesterday. He was maybe just lucky. Set his alarm to get up (in the middle of the night) early and got to the front of the queue at midday. The day before the slots were all gone when there were still hundreds in front of him.

Well miracles do happen - we've just secured a slot at Clydebank for 6th Oct. Probably a cancellation, and it's 8am but still. It's a slot.

Which is better than mid-December in Newcastle. God knows when he'll be able to get a practical test.

That's great, hopefully they can pass their theory and get a the practical before the depths of winter and fear of weather related cancellations kicks in.

Ds has his re-scheduled practical test (should have been shortly after Lockdown) next week. I hope he passes!

Good luck to him! School car park has spaces which showed me how many S6 would normally be driving by now.

DS1 has just started learning to drive. We looked as far south as Middlesbrough as we are in the Borders, and nothing at all. I hope more dates are going to be released for January at the beginning of October. It feels like a lot of pressure to pass the theory first time though.

My DC booked the earliest date for theory and it was Nov - kept checking and finally got one last week. Must have been a cancellation - was also Clydebank! Got a pass!!! Must get them to book the actual driving test now.
