Maternity hospital recommendations

Hi all

First time mummy to be here. Had my booking in appointment with midwife today and she advised I can have baby in any maternity hospital (obviously within reasonable distance). I'm not clued up on this at all. Can anyone recommend or advise on the ones in Glasgow area? We are South side if that makes any difference?

Thanks in advance xx

There are 3 I was allowed to go to, from South Lanarkshire/boundary of south side train line. They were Wishaw General, Glasgow Royal (city centre) and the QE ( out near Braehead). QE is the newest but had some initial issues. Wishaw is highly rated but not in Glasgow. I went to the royal as I’d had treatment their before.

Thank you, how did you find the Royal?

Where you work is also a consideration - as long as it is also convenient to where you live.

I chose to go to the Queen Mum's at Yorkhill when it still existed even though my GP's practice normally sent their patients to the Royal or to the Southern's maternity unit.

It was more convenient for me to get to for ante-natal appointments from work and just as close from home as the Southern. Plus my dad used to work at the Sick Kids Wink

Since the new hospital was built, I'd go to the QEUH as that's where the nurses/midwives who looked after me so well moved to.

I gave birth away QEUH, all good... but then I have nothing to compare it against!

I had both in QE one when it was still the southern and the other after the extension was completed and the name changed.

Couldn’t fault it and had great care. A friend had her baby there and there was complications which thankfully all was well in the end. She was so happy that she had her baby there as it joins straight onto the sick kids so no hospital transfer was required.

I can’t speak for the royal but someone commented that at at least QE has a separate maternity entrance unlike Wishaw but not really sure what benefit this is!
