New thread as the last one was getting full. Feel free to discuss, moan, speculate on anything to do with Scottish schools and what may/not be happening.

thanks for the new thread.

So the announcement tomorrow is just the daily party political broadcast from the SNP, rather than an update on the school position?

Holyrivolli · 15/07/2020 21:50

She might say something, she might not. Check in for today’s episode of “Nicola saves Scotland”. She’ll fill the time with a mixture of dubious interpretation of statistics, some scare mongering and letting us all know that she loves and cares for Scotland as much as Peter Andre loves his children.

Arkadia · 15/07/2020 21:51

Let me be absolutely clear, no, that should not be the case (that it will be about schools).
Gosh, I sound like the SG Grin

Sassenach85 · 15/07/2020 21:51

Just joining in Smile

YonBonnieBanks · 15/07/2020 22:06

all said with that jerky head to emphasis that just makes it look like you are going to get a headbutt.

More and more opposition MSPs are starting to question when exactly we will have the new school year confirmed so that we can all prepare.

Last minute I'm sure, cause its still NOT SAFE to decide sooner!

Amazing... and so true.
Holyrivolli · 15/07/2020 23:23

Cheers themurk. I just find it infuriating that the SG are prolonging the drama and insinuating that this much anticipated 2nd wave might overwhelm the education system and mean that we can’t open schools fully

Implying that we’re going to jump from 3 cases a day to thousands in a blink of an eye which will prevent them getting kids back to school.

The whole thing is so disingenuous but people are lapping it up as part of a real life soap opera.

TheMurk · 15/07/2020 23:27

Oh she’s absolutely waiting for 0 new cases so she can trumpet for the rooftops how Scotland did it first!

Less trumpeting about the care home deaths, death rate per capita, excess cancer deaths and suicides though. Let’s just gloss over those.

Holyrivolli · 15/07/2020 23:38

Well zero cases a day would be amazing but should not be a prerequisite for getting schools back. Infection rates are so low that there is negligible risk of a case (and it causing further infections) in any particular school. All the evidence so far shows that kids are not affected and are not spreaders.

Rhumba · 16/07/2020 09:36

Letter from our headmaster yesterday indicated that they would not get an update from the SG before 30th July but later on said something about the fact they may receive detailed guidance a few days before this.

RaraRachael · 16/07/2020 10:28

I don't know where the expectation that NS is going to make an announcement on what's happening with schools, today has come from.

As far as I'm aware JS is going to make a grand announcement on July 30th - I haven't heard anything to the contrary Confused

We received an email from our nursery last night saying an announcement was being made at 12:30 today so it's come from somewhere.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/07/2020 12:00

Bbc saying its been announced no physical distance required between children for return to school but will be required between adults and also adults should wear a mask when in close encounters with children, as long as figures show that infection levels are low.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/07/2020 12:02

Not quite sure what that means for senior high school pupils as it mentions low levels of infections of under 15s. So what defines an adult? Is it 16 and over or what? Not that it affects me but sure it will affect others on the thread.

fuckweasel · 16/07/2020 12:03

John Swinney is giving an update on education at the 12.30pm briefing. There are two government papers published today on physical distancing in schools and school transport.

FelicityPike · 16/07/2020 12:08

I heard it was NEXT Thursday there would be an announcement.

YonBonnieBanks · 16/07/2020 12:14

I can't see teachers wearing face masks being popular amongst parents and pupils. Some younger kids might not like a teacher in a mask and it wont help those kids with hearing impairments. It looks like DD wont be doing her music practice anymore.

chrislilleyswig · 16/07/2020 12:24

30th for announcement on full or blended model

Today is the detail that LAs needed after the Swinney u-turn

Sassenach85 · 16/07/2020 12:31

Where can you watch the briefing?

Sassenach85 · 16/07/2020 12:33

Got it

Sassenach85 · 16/07/2020 12:49

Sky news just cut off as John Swinney was talking fgs

AAT65 · 16/07/2020 12:53

Swinney making a further statement about school return next week in parliament.

YonBonnieBanks · 16/07/2020 12:57

he's going to drop the rules around mixing childcare.

Dinnafashyersel · 16/07/2020 14:04

Feeling vaguely reassured by latest announcement. My youngest is really missing school. The guidance for older children also looks to be heading in the right direction to pave the way for my older 2 at Uni. Face masks is only for close encounters yonbonniebanks if I understood correctly (I was thinking skint knees and tears and tantrums).

Looks like no PE, music and drama for a while. I hope this is compensated for by extra outdoor play where practical and gym passes for older children if public gyms and leisure centres are open.
