Scottish Exam Results 2020

After hearing DD3's deep sigh and worried voice observe "this time in four weeks..." I feel it's acceptable to begin the 2020 thread.

Over the years Scotsnet regulars and visitors have given great support, advice and even (tales of blissfully unaware snoring DC) light hearted relief to each other over the years.

This year has been particularly fearful for us and our DC and I know how much I have appreciated results threads in previous years. As there are plenty of threads with political discussions and chances for posters to express concerns about what politicians/councils/ schools/ teachers are or aren't doing, can I gently ask that we keep this to topic?

I have DD3 waiting on 1 AH and 2 Highers for a conditional offer and DD4 waiting on 5 Highers - results depending she'd like to apply for Law for the end of S6.

DD thinks she is registered but also failed to log in and says it will be fine anyway because she will get them by post - our post has been weird, some things taking ages. Hopefully she'll be ok,her teachers were predicting good grades at parents night.

WeAllHaveWings · 11/07/2020 19:02

Our post doesn't come until around lunchtime so ds is registered and has checked he can sign in, but he usually doesn't get up before noon during the holidays and doesn't seem bothered about getting the results so the post might still come first 🤦🏻‍♀️.

It's going to be a long morning for me as I'll be up and working from 7am waiting for him to get up and read them first.

3 weeks now Gin

I feel like a bad mum as have a hair appointment at 8am on the 4th, didn’t even cross my mind at the time! In fairness ds will probably still be asleep when I get home! He’s waiting in nat5s, should be fine for most but worried about English as his prelim wasn’t as good as his tracking reports predicted

Alittlewornout · 21/07/2020 10:15

2 weeks today.... how is everyone feeling. Dd not really mentioning it, too busy getting organised for uni ( ie costing me a fortune!!!)

Wbeezer · 21/07/2020 10:22

It has not even been mentioned in this house. TBH we've already written off DS3's results as he struggled to manage the prelims and course work. A late diagnosis of ADHD and medication came just before lockdown, I reckon he would have managed to salvage the situation if he'd had the opportunity to cram for the exams but not ti be. Hoping Highers next year proceed as normal as we are focussing on them now.

Lidlfix · 21/07/2020 10:56

We are mostly ok though (the massive) uni spends are tinged by the big IF I GET in elephant in the room.

DD got her OU module result today. Did really well and is saying she's not so bothered about the rest of her results in 2 weeks time. However I think she will be disappointed if she doesn't get an A for maths.

She's back to her fast food job and comes back after every shift with things for uni from Wilcos which she's storing in my office. Looks like she may be turning over a new leaf with the floordrobe being replaced by hangers. We'll see. DS2 says his friends rooms look great in September but look like crack dens by December.

My DS2s seemed to have formed an entire extra carpet made from hair by the time he left - there was a vacuum but it had no power, slightly improved by the removal of a clump of hair from the tube...

Lidlfix · 21/07/2020 14:04

Crack dens and carpets of hair GrinDD1 had to replace her kettle and keep the new one locked in her room after her halls one of residence roomies pissed in it because the sink was full Envyand he was locked out his en-suite bedroom.

Aye it was all Ikea and fairy lights for freshers...

OP posts:
Alittlewornout · 21/07/2020 14:40

Oh @Lidlfix the IKEA and fairy lights at freshers made me laugh. Never a true word was said, my Ds first student flat was lovely but 2 months in not so. On our first visit I had to clean the bathroom before my dd would even use it. Dont think any if the bleach I had bought him had been used before that!Grin

prettybird · 21/07/2020 15:53

It gets better in time. Ds (going into 3rd year at Uni) now complains about his flat mate not being quite as house proud as he is (although he's by no means perfect Grin) and I had to take him to IKEA (or rather, accompany him while he drove for practice Wink) so that he could get a rug to improve the appearance of their living room and make it more homely Shock

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/07/2020 15:57

To be fair his room at home is better than he's ever kept it because I do't allow the girlfriend over unless it's clean and tidy. :o

Strangely the toilets in the flat were immaculate where the livingroom and kitchen were hideous.

emummy · 21/07/2020 16:09

We’re not talking about results just now! DD2 waiting on Nat 5s, not worried. But Dd1 waiting on 3AH and 1H, needs good marks to apply for medicine; she doesn’t have a place just now so redoing UCAT - joy- and crossing fingers for results.
Good luck all

ClerkMaxwell · 21/07/2020 18:22

emummy work colleagues DD got Aberdeen second time around for medicine this year. I can't remember what her AHs were (probably BBB) but she definitely improved on her UCAT as I remember her mum's celebration when she got the text. Hope all goes well for your DD. I think only 2 of the 8 medicine/dentistry applicants at DDs school have offers this year.

emummy · 21/07/2020 18:30

Thanks ClerkMaxwell! If she could get ok grades & increase her UCAT she will have a chance. Fingers crossed!

Alittlewornout · 21/07/2020 18:36

Fingers crossed for her @emummy. I can't link ( because I am useless) but looks like A level grades are up a little this year. It's on the BBC think.

Groovee · 21/07/2020 20:02

He's too busy learning to bake at the moment to discuss it. He has a college place. But he did subjects he enjoyed this year.

His certificate for his college and construction courses arrived last week from the SQA. Not sure why they didn't just wait and send it all together.

Oh my, that looks delicious.

DD3 was terrified when an SQA envelope arrived the other day. Turned out to be the Nat 5 in Mental Health Awareness ( or something like that) that she'd undertaken as part of her S5 mentoring program about 2 years ago.

Whitelisbon · 22/07/2020 00:38

We're waiting for dd1s results - 2 AH, 2 H, and a nat 5.
Her prelims were all As, so shes pretty confident, and totally chilled out about it all, as she's got an unconditional for college, and an interview for the police. I'm more nervous than she is, no matter what she says she'll be gutted if she doesn't get good marks.

IKEA888 · 23/07/2020 07:23

I've been. starting to panic Daughter due 5 higher results
how is everyone coping ?

cocopops · 23/07/2020 11:17

Nervous! Was on the SQA zoom meeting yesterday organised by SPTS and it didn’t engender confidence. With what happened with the IB results, am expecting a shitshow with SQA tbh.

Lidlfix · 23/07/2020 12:13

Cocopops that's giving me the fear as a parent and a teacher Sad.

OP posts:
ClerkMaxwell · 23/07/2020 13:13

cocopops Did they share what the grade inflation was from teachers estimates? Ofqual said A levels grades would have been 12% increased if teacher estimates weren't adjusted. Did they say anything about schools with small numbers of candidates for particular subjects?

At least SQA are allowing limited appeals. IB people in DDs uni chat group say IB weighted heavily on the coursework. Some schools guessed this and got pupils to redo in March.
