Just what it says really. I think she's done a great job. She has made mistakes and owned them. She has taken advice and is willing to change policy where necessary. I think she's done pretty well and our virus figures are improving daily. So a thread for some positive things!

Internet Is awash with similar things.
Criticizing publicly NS is dangerous as you could end up beaten up or your car keyed or both (or worse).
Do we REALLY need it here too? This is one of the few places where people of a different persuasion from the current accepted thinking can congregate. Must the SNP trolls shut this down too? (I suppose, this is what they do...)

At the moment political discourse is forbidden in Scotland.
Should the SNP "lose" the next elections meaning they can't form a government (either on their own or with their green minions), I am looking forward to seeing them supporting whoever the next leader is going to be, because they don't want to "talk down Scotland).

upstar · 03/07/2020 16:47

Hmm, I'm hoping for some positive posts, maybe @Arkadia this isn't the thread for you.

Arkadia · 03/07/2020 16:51

What I am saying is that you can find one wherever you turn.
Maybe you should try and respect what many people say here. I am not going to a forum of SNP sympathisers asking why they think NS is such a poor leader. You do the same, @upstar, otherwise people might think you are here to troll.

upstar · 03/07/2020 17:06

@Arkadia I'm not on your thread trolling

Haha don't know why my post was duplicated! Anyway I just wanted to find some positive people for a Friday!

Agree with @Arkadia. Nicola Sturgeon is divisive and done very little of use during this crisis.

She’s been exceptionally lucky with the timing re Alex Salmond.

This throwing her toys out of the pram about the quarantine stuff is embarrassing and is risking more jobs. BJ doesn’t need to consult her - it’s reserved, get over it.

Jazzled · 03/07/2020 17:13

Do either of you live in Scotland?

PersonaNonGarter · 03/07/2020 17:22

Yep.

Not sure why that is of relevance.

I have an opinion on Donald Trump too.

TitianaTitsling · 03/07/2020 17:24

I agree with @Arkadia- I wouldn't sadly feel brave enough to say I don't support NS on any form of my social media, there is a definite #nodebate I feel at present when it comes to the wonders of the SNP! I respect those who like her to have their opinion, but don't think it would be reciprocal.

Superjaggy · 03/07/2020 17:28

Every. Single. Thread.

Why can't you Nicola-haters just keep off the thread? This is not what the OP was looking for!

Scotsnet is fast becoming a no-go area for anyone who thinks anything positive about NS.

TitianaTitsling · 03/07/2020 17:30

So #nodebate jaggy? Agree or sod off?

MorrisZapp · 03/07/2020 17:32

Oh for goodness sake. Please find me a leader of any democratic country whose supporters expect to be allowed safe space no criticism zones on general chat sites.

By all means go to Indychat or the SNP website or wherever to have your 'support only' conversation. To expect it on a non politically affiliated website open to all is just laughable, I'm sorry.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 03/07/2020 17:33

I love her.

Where Bojo has waffled on and said fuck all, she has stood up, been clear and has admitted when she doesn't have the answers, or when she, and those around her have fucked up, and she has tried her best for Scotland in unimaginable times.

VaTeLaverLesMains · 03/07/2020 17:35

I didn't like her at all years ago when AS was the leader.

She got my hackles up for being headgirlish which is probably just my own school hangups projecting.

She's since grown on me massively, and I really like her and trust that she says what she thinks.

She doesn't condescend and communicates well. She is hardworking and answers questions even saying if she doesn't know.

She even passes the 'would i go on holiday with... test' .

Yep, I'm a convert.

PersonaNonGarter · 03/07/2020 17:36

She really isn’t trying very hard for the retail or tourist sectors right now, though.

What is this posturing about quarantine? It is divisive. These countries have a lower rate of virus than the U.K. and SCOTLAND NEEDS TOURISTS.

And the masks in shops thing..? Just kill retailers now, and be done with it.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 03/07/2020 17:36

A thread for Boris admirers would likely go the same way because that’s how Mumsnet works. Opinions are challenged, and I actually find it quite refreshing that people feel free to criticise and speak their mind. Leaders SHOULD be scrutinised, not deified. As others, I’d never feel safe/brave enough to do it in real life.

If an echo chamber is what you’re after, perhaps try Twitter. There, you can only follow people who think the way you do and block anyone who disagrees. If you’re lucky you might never hear a dissenting voice!

VaTeLaverLesMains · 03/07/2020 17:38

It's noticeable on Twitter when she posts public health advice the response is largely positive, whereas when Boris or Matty does similar they are slated with Durham/eye test type ripostes

upstar · 03/07/2020 17:46

I never put political posts on Twitter as it's full of vitriol and this is one of the only places I can express an opinion and debate.

She is doing a great job.
People who criticise and say that supporting her is trolling play right into the hands of the SNP bad trope, ironically.

OP posts:
roarfeckingroar · 03/07/2020 17:49

This'll be a short thread

chergar · 03/07/2020 17:52

I like NS, I don't see her as being divisive, can you give some examples of that?

Any decisions she makes are for the health of the public, the reasoning behind decisions have been clearly communicated as well.

Sectors may not be opening up as quickly as others but that is because the evidence says the risks are too great.

I think a lot of people just disagree with her based on her stance on independence, if you don't want independence, fine, but don't bash NS and the careful easing of restrictions because of it.

What exactly would you have had her do?

MorrisZapp · 03/07/2020 17:53

Nobody has suggested that supporting NS is trolling. Half the Scottish population voted for her. She's got a, legitimate mandate.

The trolling part is asking for a safe space free of criticism of her on an open to all chat forum.

chergar · 03/07/2020 17:54

This is so true

A thread for people who admire and like Nicola Sturgeon
PersonaNonGarter · 03/07/2020 17:55

‘The evidence says the risks are too great’ - no. Some evidence says it would be good to do X, other evidence says it would be good to do Y.

She needs to start prioritising jobs not just virtue signaling.

KaronAVyrus · 03/07/2020 17:57

If you want a safe space to talk about how much you love her I suggest this place. www.thenational.scot/
