Glasgow. Which shops will open from 29th

So I'm not desperate to get back to the shops yet but I love the shops in Buchanan street and would like to return soon. Anyone know which shops in the city centre are re-opening from 29th? I'm presuming a lot of them have an entrance which opens to the outside.

I should think all of them, apart from ones within a shopping centre. The big ones like Debenham in St enichs and John Lewis in buchanan galleries have doors that open to the street so am sure they will be opening too. Maybe prince's Square inside shops and argyle arcade won't open yet.

ssd · 18/06/2020 19:35

I agree, it'll be sooo good to see shops open and people out again!

trumpisaflump · 18/06/2020 20:03

Can't wait! My friend is a jeweller in the Argyle Arcade and I think he is gutted he can't open. The road map looked as if small retail could open in phase 2 so he's so disappointed.

Primark 🙏🏼

user1487194234 · 18/06/2020 20:22

Hopefully John Lewis
Am really looking forward to a shopping spree

ssd · 18/06/2020 20:59

Argyle arcade might be an exception as it has entrances at both ends though, it's not strictly a shopping centre. Am sure primark and John Lewis will be open.

poppet31 · 19/06/2020 09:58

I would guess all the shops at the fort would be allowed to open but not braehead? Silverburn etc (apart from the big stores like M&S) which have their own entrance.

ssd · 19/06/2020 15:27

The Fort will be fine. I think silver burn will be closed but I read Debenhams is closed for good there now anyway. Brae head will be closed.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 19/06/2020 20:35

The argyle arcade hardly has queues coming out of every shop- I don't think they need to worry about being overrun

trumpisaflump · 19/06/2020 20:45

@TrollTheRespawnJeremy yeah I know but they can't open if not allowed. Anyway they can open as they are not classed as a shopping centre. Very pleased.

I desperately need my hair done. Not to mention eyebrows and top lip. Are they all phase 3?!

trumpisaflump · 19/06/2020 22:22

@StrawberryScentedThings well NS didn't really stick to anything that was originally planned for phase 2 so I don't think we can plan anything based on the route map. I really need my hair cut too 😢

I think primark, boots, next, M&S, Holland and Barrett, and Superdrug will be open at braehead. They either have outside entrances or are deemed essential. Bit of a kick in the teeth for many retailers.

BeingLonely · 21/06/2020 21:52

M&S at braehead is already open. Has been for a while as it sells food but has been selling clothes recently too

Blathers · 21/06/2020 22:16

M&S, Boots, Holland & Barrett opened at the Fort too already...!

prettybird · 21/06/2020 22:42

I can understand Boots (pharmacy) and just about Holland & Barret, Superdrug (nearly pharmacies Wink) - but I don't see how Primark comes even close to the category of "essential" Confused And at Silverburn, they definitely don't have "outside entrances" Hmm

The Primarks in the centre of Glasgow - and the one at Braehead could open though.

BeingLonely · 21/06/2020 23:21

Matalan is already open. They opened in Clydebank a fair few days ago. Granted it’s a street entrance/exit but they aren’t essential

nannyplumsmagranny · 21/06/2020 23:53

Buchanan Galleries opening in July

nannyplumsmagranny · 21/06/2020 23:54

Hairdressers August according to my hairdresser friend.

How can they open if they are a shopping centre?
Finfintytint · 23/06/2020 14:27

How did Ikea manage to open this week?

ssd · 23/06/2020 14:58

I wondered that too? Maybe because they sell essential home stuff, in that case why did they ever close?

SockYarn · 26/06/2020 08:17

I think they get round it because they sell things like crockery and bedding - homewares are defined as essential items. Ikea could have been open all through, but chose not to open.

DD is desperate to go to Primark. She doesn't need anything, it's more a desire to do something normal.

trumpisaflump · 26/06/2020 08:41

@SockYarn I totally get how your DD feels. I don't really need anything from the shops either but will go to them next week as I feel this represents the first move back to normality. We all need a lift!
