Help with Glow email for school please

Hi

I was hoping someone could help me.

Our school told parents that they could get a free copy of MS Office as part of the ScotGov educational licence which apparently covers all Scottish school children.

I’ve tried to take advantage of this but I seem to need a Glow email address for my child. My child’s school says they don’t use Glow.

Does anyone know the standard format for these email addresses ? I’d love to get hold of this software.

Many thanks in advance.

What authority are you? I might be able to help

Musicalmistress · 27/05/2020 16:17

It's usually
[email protected]
But some authorities have the authority initials first eg West Lothian is [email protected]

feelingdizzy · 27/05/2020 16:18

It's gw followed by the date your child started school, followed by surname and first name then glow.sch.uk.
So if your child started in 2018 and is called Joe bloggs. It would be [email protected]
I'm not sure if you will be able to get this if school isn't using it as they usually set passwords.

Musicalmistress · 27/05/2020 16:18

You really need to get it from the school or the authority as there's a good chance there are numbers added or it may be first initial.surname - there are loads of variables.

Ah right. Thanks very much for quick responses!

It’s a bit frustrating to be told they don’t use glow. I thought that was the official system....

Will give it a try,

Thanks all!

Many children have access to the Microsoft Office Suite through office 365 log ins.

Superjaggy · 27/05/2020 18:23

They may not use GLOW but an account will have been generated for them when they first registered at school (doesn't matter if your child has moved school, it moves with them). I'd ask someone else in your local authority - maybe someone in the digital/ IT team.

fascinated · 27/05/2020 19:32

@superjaggy - that’s what I thought - that surely there must be an account somehow if it is the official system and we got the message about having an entitlement to a copy of Office.

Did they understand you didn't want to use glow as in log in and expect their work uploaded there, but to use office?
I would ask again.

fascinated · 28/05/2020 09:58

Neither the teacher or the admin staff had any idea what I was talking about! They are very nice, but quite often seem to miss the point.... I’ve now asked twice so didn’t want to be a pest.

Ask for the IT contact at the authority- they will have a better grasp of what you're asking.

Ok, great, thanks a lot!
