Has anybody applied for a deferment for an October born child? Did it take long and did you get it?

The official deadline for applying for deferral will have passed, but if you email your local authority they'll tell you what the procedure is if you wish to apply now. Guidance changed this year to state that if you feel that your child isn't socially ready (or isn't ready for any other reason) you should apply to defer, and that funding for another year of ELC should be granted.

Deferal Support Scotland on Facebook is a good place for support or the Give Them Time campaign.

Edinburgh seemed to approve ALL deferrals this year but that might change next year. You just never know.

We deferred ds, feb birthday, years ago. Back then Jan/Feb were automatically approved, Nov/Dec needed more justification. Oct was rarely done without significant reasons.

You might find it tougher this year to defer an Oct birthday as I expect during the current pandemic lots of parents would want to defer for a year until this is all over and there may be concerns about the impact of huge class sizes next year.
