I’m hoping there are some teachers on here

If the schools don't go back until August I can’t see how children sitting Highers ( my daughter in S5 ) are ever going to catch up on missed teaching

My daughter is starting her new timetable on Monday so that will mean 7 weeks of home schooling and although she is a hard worker nothing compares to classroom learning

Obviously she is not sitting her Nat 5 s and now the 2020/2021 school year is going bring a new set of problems

Not teacher but have had 3 children go thru system. In previous years higher teaching only started early June (after exam period) so 3 weeks max before holidays. Many students switched courses so teachers started afresh in August and still got everything done by end of March or even earlier. Two of my 3 picked up courses in the August and managed these fine.

Having a hard worker makes a difference (I have one of these) so with 7 weeks of home schooling she should be fine.

We don't think that next year's SQA exams will look the same. At present teachers don't know who is healthy, has access to tech , sharing tech between many, helping look after siblings or grandparents...

We are beginning courses that we know will change for pupils who we know will change subjects or teachers. No detriment is the motto .

Agree with ClerkMaxwell. For context, DSs school said around a third of pupils changed their options after exam results so only started in August. That might be more or less successful depending on the subject, but the school I'm referring to gets some of the top results in the country. I think doing things such as start reading any set texts and continuing to do past papers for the relevant Nat 5s that she was progressing to higher for would be good preparation.
