That would be newsworthy!!

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/05/2020 22:36

I'm sure there will be journos already staked out at the parental homes of a lot of the senior figures to make sure they don't jump the gun and go before we are told and also time how long they are there to work out if they would need the toilet... :)

Maybe he'll just not have a cup of tea and he'll last for a few hours. Hopefully he'll provide more clarity in the next few days :)

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/05/2020 23:18

I dunno, he's getting to that age when it becomes harder for guys to hold it for very long and I'm sure no self respecting parent would send him on his way without a cup of tea and a digestive biscuit?

Noworrieshere · 21/05/2020 23:23

The turn this thread has taken is the first thing to make me laugh all day

Mascotte · 21/05/2020 23:36

Yes.. but now I have a vision of John Swinney peeing in a lay-by like the football buses ... 😱

Very disappointing if true. I had really been hoping that NS wasn’t playing politics with the crisis.

Arewethereyet21 · 22/05/2020 09:48

I honestly think that independence is always on her agenda and she will use any means possible to drive a wedge between Holyrood and Westminster. Wait for the fallout when furlough finishes and kids are no where near being back at school full time, no after school care and people (this will no doubt fall mainly on working mothers) are forced to cut their hours or otherwise sacrifice their careers. This whole crisis will set back gender equality by decades.

trumpisaflump · 22/05/2020 10:13

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us very interesting. It's behind a paywall so I can't read the article but I get the general gist.

KaronAVyrus · 22/05/2020 10:19

If Swinney is off to see his dad is he going to stay in his garden or will he be allowed in his house? I’m genuinely confused about the rules.

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/05/2020 10:22

trump, you can register and get a few free articles a week, 2 maybe? Can't remember but that is usually enough for what I want to read.

I guess this comes back to the chat we had before - not sure if on this thread or another - about why was our number higher when we locked down earlier in the cycle.

I think the biggest scandal to come will be an investigation into the amount of patients hospitals released to care homes without any testing. There was a rush to get them out the door before the requirement to test came in. They wanted the hospitals empty and appreciate that they didn't know that the empty beds they created wouldn't be needed, but in not doing things properly they massively increased the risks to care home residents.

Given that they knew where the greatest risk was, it is scandalous that more support etc wasn't given in protecting this most vulnerable group, never mind making it worse.

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/05/2020 10:24

Karon, it will need to be in the garden.

Any bets for there being completely shit weather for the foreseeable since we can't be meeting folk indoors?

KaronAVyrus · 22/05/2020 10:25

I don’t fancy travelling 1.5 hrs there and back again without toilet facilities. We are a very open family but I’m not going to have a pee in my mum’s garden.

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/05/2020 10:26

And the eventual ability to eat outside where establishments can offer this will either not be an issue as it will be constantly pishing or will be overcrowded immediately since there aren't a lot of places able to offer this since, you know, it's Scotland and mostly freezing, windy and wet, except for when no-one is allowed out...

ScarfLadysBag · 22/05/2020 10:32

I think we are just going to go for it when Phase 1 is announced and use the toilet and entrance no one uses. My parents don't need to go anywhere near there (and haven't used that toilet or that hallway or entrance since lockdown began). Nicola Sturgeon said we need to use our judgement and in my opinion the risk is almost non-existent in doing that so I'm comfortable with it.

I don't mind peeing in a bush but would rather use a toilet Grin

Mistressiggi · 22/05/2020 10:36

Are supermarket toilets still open? Though you might have to queue a while to get in! And would be more exposed than in one house.

Arewethereyet21 · 22/05/2020 10:48

I realise they have implemented a 5 mile rule for driving to exercise to stop people overwhelming beauty stops but it seems a bit ridiculous when you can drive for an hour to see family.

We have thoroughly exhausted all the local safe cycling routes In the last 9 weeks so I will be travelling a bit further afield to find some secluded routes come next weekend.

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/05/2020 11:02

I would presume that supermarket loos are closed but can't confirm. I think legally you only need them if you are serving food in a cafe type type situation which they wont be at the moment. I don't see why they would give themselves more work and risk if they don't have to.

If I was a shop manager I'd shut them.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 22/05/2020 11:18

@Arewethereyet21 the damage this will inevitably do to gender equality is one of the most frustrating things about this, as is the obvious widening of the attainment gap for children. Those with parents who are able to sit with them during their home school time will end up streets ahead of the children whose parents can’t or won’t help. Educated parents will be most keen to try and ensure their children are not part of the group who falls behind, so poorer children fall even further behind. There’s no end in sight, and when challenged on what working parents are supposed to do John Swinney this morning basically said that parents and employers just have to suck it up and get on with it. This is all so bloody regressive it’s actually getting me quite angry.
