The spreadsheets and graphs in the link above are fascinating - and really quite reassuring too, showing the trend in everything from people being transported to hospital with Covid, to deaths, to 111 calls, to delayed discharges from hospital. I can't honestly commend the Scottish government highly enough for how they're handling this.

I actually cancelled my SNP membership a while ago, but I may reinstate it. There is no other leader actively engaging with people and LEADING in the UK right now realistically, is there?

Trichford · 24/04/2020 14:04

@AudacityOfHope I totally agree with you.

Anybody had the waste of money/resources letter?

@AudacityOfHope before you do consider this

www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/18406700.ppe-shipment-china-still-stuck-glasgow-prestwick-airport/

A shipment of vital personal protective equipment (PPE) has been delayed from reaching NHS workers, the Scottish Health Secretary confirmed today.

The equipment is being kept at Glasgow Prestwick Airport while a labelling issue is being resolved.

"It contains 10 million IIR masks - that is a fluid-resistant mask. It also has 20,000 testing kits that important."

The Government decided it preferred to have equipment "sitting on a runway in Scotland" rather than "sitting on a runway in China", Ms Freeman explained.

The charter plane carrying the PPE landed in Glasgow Prestwick Airport on Saturday, April 19.

"For NHS Scotland it is not immediately needed at the frontline but it will add importantly to our stockpile."

The last quote especially I'm sure will reassure all the medics crying out for it.

Scotslassie1 · 27/04/2020 20:41

Yes the Chinese exporter put the labels on the inside not the outside. This needs rectified for customs to process.

This is not immediately needed as around 50m PPE items have been delivered to hospitals. Eight weeks supply of PPE was delivered to GPs in Scotland at the end of March.

Remember the situation would not have came about if Scotland hadn't been forced to source ppe from China as UK Gov prevented the usual UK PPE companies selling for Scottish use.

AudacityOfHope · 28/04/2020 10:15

So they made the decision to make sure the equipment was in Scotland, then they'd have to fix the error from here? Is that right?

If that's the case I'm struggling to see the issue.

For those looking for daily Scottish statistics these sites are excellent <a class="break-all" href="https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/politics/scottish-politics/1200709/coronavirus-in-scotland-track-the-spread-in-these-charts-and-maps/www.travellingtabby.com/scotland-coronavirus-tracker/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/politics/scottish-politics/1200709/coronavirus-in-scotland-track-the-spread-in-these-charts-and-maps/www.travellingtabby.com/scotland-coronavirus-tracker/

Crimples · 28/04/2020 10:26

Sorry, I’ve separated them.
messed up trying to post them both together

Noworrieshere · 28/04/2020 20:11

They're interesting @Crimples thank you

Jodri · 28/04/2020 22:27

Thank you crumples.

I thought Nicola sturgeon guidance to wear a nose and face covering is right.

Did anyone else notice in todays briefing the FM saying that they would need to consider the fairness of reducing restrictions on those who were shielding for 12 weeks?

Whilst I've no wish to go out saying nah nah na nah na to those still required to stay in, you can't surely impose more stringent restrictions than necessary on the vast majority of the population to make it fair can you?

Nothing about this situation is fair, some people have conditions that already mean that they might feel that life isn't fair. Some folk are stuck in flats with small children and no gardens to play in, other folk are staring down the barrel at unemployment, other folks are doing what they like anyway, some kids are playing in the street for hours on end, etc etc etc.

To be honest, I'm not finding things too bad, I can work at home, we are all healthy adults, I don't have elderly relatives to worry about, i'm generally fairly anti-social anyway and i'm perfectly happy with grocery shopping once a week and a quick walk round the estate most days.

My main wish is that by the time my holidays come round (mid June) we'll be allowed to go for a drive and a picnic though a pub lunch would be amazing! Otherwise, I'm okay to keep going for another 3 weeks or more.

I appreciate that others aren't and that everyone has their own unique circumstances. I'd hate to think that everyone else was kept in because of me though.

nuttymomma · 05/05/2020 15:13

She's not actually telling us much. Far too many "maybe", "possibly" etc. Nothing of any substance. She just wants to get in there first.

You never hear any NI or Wales briefings being reported do you?

She can fuck off as far as I'm concerned. I'm more interested in the westminster briefing.

It needs to be a UK wide approach otherwise, as one business said on the news, employers will just be confused as what to do and people will just do different things on each side of the border and there will be complaints / people putting themselves in danger etc.

She's being political and irresponsible.

We won't forget the Alex Salmond stuff that easily, or the finance minister's behaviour, or the Calderwood fuck up either.

One of the silent majority here. I think she'll be disappointed in the next elections. I know many former indy voters who are now totally against it (and they are all NHS Scotland workers actually)

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/05/2020 15:24

It will get confusing. My boss is in England and at the beginning we had different instructions on what to do when you had symptoms - who to go to/report to and we were at cross purposes for a bit (as I was ill) and he's telling me I need to phone my GP and NHS Scotland was saying don't. Already folk in Scotland been stopped as they were going shopping over the border (driving a fair way) as they thought restrictions were different in England (and booze probably cheaper).

I can see how the different areas may be able to do different things as the risks will be different but it would be hard to manage I think.

What is it they were saying? The level of infection is due to 2 things, the density of the population and the density of the population...

nuttymomma · 05/05/2020 20:10

Lol they just wanted a trip to the lakes and used shopping as an excuse.

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/05/2020 21:40

indeed @nuttymomma, i'm missing my annual Booths fix since our Easter break was cancelled. A day trip to Booths might be our summer holidays this year if we are alllowed to travel by then.

ssd · 05/05/2020 23:07

@nuttymomma, 'I'm more interested in the westminster briefing.'.. Christ your name suits you.

WeAllHaveWings · 06/05/2020 00:16

She just wants to get in there first

IMO she is trying to be more transparent with information as she gets it. My brother is in Wales and says the Welsh announcements are sometimes earlier too. Westminster has a different style and culture, they like to play their cards closer to their chests so it sometimes seems to be later and sometimes only a couple of hours so no big deal. why should she wait to inform the people she represents? I personally prefer too know sooner.

Scotslassie1 · 06/05/2020 12:17

Anyone else finding it terrifying that England has the second largest ( probably largest once care homes etc included) deaths in Europe? And talk of opening schools. I have a lot of friends and family there. So so sad what's happened.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/05/2020 12:21

I don't think we can rely on any of the stats tbh, not that they are necessarily wrong, just that every stat has been produced on a different basis. the only one I've been following is the amount of intensive care beds occupied by Covid patients.

Blueberryham · 06/05/2020 13:04

That’s what I follow too. The current number in intensive care is the only figure that can’t be fudged or inaccurate.

Blueberryham · 06/05/2020 13:05

I too am amazed that they are considering opening schools when we have such terrible deaths rates. Other countries announce they are lifting the lockdown when all they actually mean is instead of people being shut in they are now allowing people to exercise outside. Even in China they still don’t have younger children in school yet

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/05/2020 13:43

That’s what I follow too. The current number in intensive care is the only figure that can’t be fudged or inaccurate.

Well, i'm assuming that all those requiring intensive care are tested but that may or may not be correct I guess.

ssd · 06/05/2020 14:27

They won't open English schools before September. They are daft, but not that daft.
Well they are that daft but they still won't open schools.
