Hope MN and other Scotsnetters are OK with another CV thread here? Thought I'd set up a separate thread from the main one just to tackle impact on schools, potential closures etc.

As I said in main thread, my DP has been off for 5 days so now it looks like we’re going to have to self-isolate for 14 days. Do we back/date it to last Thursday - his 1st day home? I’m saying yes.

My biggest worry is DS who has both his N5 Art portfolios to submit on Friday and his Nat 5 Talking French exam on Mon 23rd. Luckily he has both his Art Portfolios at home as he was finishing them up and mounting the boards so technically we could have someone pick them up from us and take them into school for deadline (when he actually finishes his Expressive!). His French is a problem though.

I've just emailed school and spoken to the receptionist. They will hopefully get back to me - imagine they will be waiting for steer from SQA . They both have school IPads as we’re in Glasgow and my DS is confident he can just get on with revision as resources are online and he can communicate with teachers via Glow but he’s very downhearted. And will the exams even happen?

Anyone else in the same boat? I wonder if they will close schools before they're due to break for Easter anyway?

Scottish teacher here. We are all at full tilt trying to get things done. Folios etc. But doing so with few staff and missing pupils.

We really need the SQA to make a decision. Not least because of practical exams / deadlines etc. Their current advice is from last Thursday and is business as usual.

He should make every effort to get stuff done. There are procedures for illness which involve sending in evidence but there is no way the SQA can mark a huge chunk of evidence from every pupil for each missed assessment.

Worth pressuring SQA etc for a decision.

The teachers at my kids school think SQA exams will go ahead with the schools opening for just those pupils.

I assume the usual procedures will apply for kids who are ill or who have a family member who is ill. Even that will be a huge amount of extra work for schools.

Update at 2pm.

Hopefully the SQA can answer things soon. My Ds has submitted all his folio stuff. As they have school iPads can access work if needs be.

He's got a college place for August but some of his friends have had their interviews cancelled.

First monster says schools and nurseries to close from Friday and probably won’t open again until August

I0NA · 18/03/2020 13:29

Oops First Minister

MorrisZapp · 18/03/2020 13:32

No decision made yet about SQA exams, because they don’t know how long this will last.

First Monster is the best typo I've seen for a while. Grin
