Nursery hours

Moving home to Scotland with 3yo and newborn. DS was previously in nursery (flexible place- we have great relationship with them so he will be going back there).

Until I'm ready to go back to work I would ideally like DS to go to nursery for his free hours only and then he will do free hours plus whatever reqd. At that time baby will go to the same nursery on a flexible basis fully funded by us. Can you put your child to private nursery for the government provided hours only or must you pay for extra 'private' hours?

I think it depends on what the nursery are able to provide. It's not a straightforward thing. You'd have to contact the nursery you are intending using and discuss. I think some will only split to a whole day or half day session so you might use your hours to cover a number of full or half sessions but maybe not say 5 hours per day over every day if that makes sense?
