Is Sgaire a popular name in Scotland?

I love the name Zackary, my partner prefers the Scottish spelling of the name.

Ive not come across it until now.

Neither me nor DH have ever come across that, I'm from central Scotland he's from the north east.

Is your partner called Dave? I often find a correlation between people with one-spelling names picking names with hard-to-spell names for their kids because they don’t appreciate what it’s like to go through life with one!

Never heard of it here in North East Scotland.
In a previous job I worked with schools in all LEA’s in Scotland and part of it involved putting kids names into a database. Usually about 3,000 per year I worked at the job for 8 years and never heard that name. I did see some out there names and about 8 different ways to spell some perfectly average sounding names.

I don't know why people give their children names that no one would EVER be able to spell. Gaelic words sound nothing like the way they are written down. Do your child a favour and give them a name people will know how to spell

Sounds too much like scar or scary. There are very few names on my no list but even I would be checking for a typo. How about Sagairt?

I've lived on the west coast and the east coast of Scotland and never heard of it.

Never seen or heard it before in my nearly 60 years of Scottishness. We have quite a few family friends who are native Gaelic speakers too, mostly elderly and haven’t come across it. My name is moderately hard to spell (apparently) and that’s a pain, don’t make a child’s life unnecessarily difficult.

NE Scotland here. Never heard of it. But I think I like it.

I'm also late 50s and have never heard the name. Glasgow but spent 15 years of going to Tiree, where we made many friends, and never came across it.
