PwC undergrad apprenticeship

Dd was sent info for this by Edin uni where she holds an offer for Maths. She only showed us late last night so we are all just beginning to look in to it but on the surface it looks like a fab opportunity. From the little reading I have done it would appear this is the first time the opportunity has been available in Scottish unis( Edinburgh and St Andrews). Just wondered if any others were considering this as a possibility?? Interest has to be noted by the ucas deadline.

Someone in DDs AH maths was considering the PwC apprenticeship (he did an insight week with DD). However DD says he's decided not to apply - prefers more personal choice in course options plus thought it would be less fun. He will probably go to Edinburgh or Heriot Watt with 2nd year entry and just do shorter summer internships

Thanks Clerk that may well be Dd choice too we just had no knowledge of this option. If Dd AHs go as hoped she too would be looking at direct entry to second year. She very wisely is speaking to the head of careers today. On another note ds is waiting to hear about an internship with PwC.

I suspect it was the work experience (not PwC) that DD and friend did that put friend off graduate apprenticeships! DD came home with brochures for lots of graduate apprenticeships and I did think the PwC ones looked the best. Could your DD register interest to give her time to consider and then withdraw if she changes her mind?

That’s a very good point Clerk and I think that is what she is discussing with her teacher today. We will do a bit more looking into it over the weekend as poor girl starts prelims next week so doesn’t have a lot of free time to investigate for herself. Thanks so much for your thoughts and experiences it is very helpful to “talk” things over as it were!😀

This is DS’ first choice. He’d already applied but still got the email the other day encouraging him to apply for it. Grin

I think next year will be the third year Edinburgh is offering it? He first heard about it last year when a former pupil who was on the programme came to his school to give a talk about the programme. It’s the perfect combination of course material plus work experience for DS so he’s very keen (though if he doesn’t get in it, he’s decided he’ll accept his Maths/stats offer from Edinburgh).

He has a conditional from Edinburgh for the academic part and is sitting the first online assessment for PWC tomorrow.

Alittle when DD did her work experience everyone stressed the importance of practising for the online tests rather than just hoping to wing it. DD found some of the tests easy but was rubbish at the numerical accuracy ones.

Thanks so much ladies. She is considering it over the weekend but to be honest I don’t think she would have the time to practice the online tests as she is up to her eyes revising for prelims. She has an unconditional for maths with Edinburgh anyway. I think it looks like an amazing opportunity, keeping my fingers crossed for you DS wicked. Let us know how he gets on.🤞
