Lenzie - schools

Thinking about moving to Lenzie; but have a P6 & P2 who need school places at primary.

I know it's just a case of phoning the school & finding out if there are places in the year groups- but what's it like for secondary?

Do you automatically get in to Lenzie academy if you are in a catchment primary? Or is it oversubscribed?

I understand there have been lots of new builds there, some of which are in the Kirkintilloch catchment- so I'd be avoiding these & not relying on an out of catchment request.

Any inside knowledge would be appreciated.

Oh, and any information about before/after school childcare in Lenzie meadows or Millersneuk primaries would really be appreciated.

And Rainbows, gymnastics, Scouts, rugby too!

Thanks

Don't know the schools - but Lenzie Rugby Club has an active youth section (both girls and boys) all the way through from P1. The club I'm involved with via my ds (even though he's now away at Uni can't quite get away from it Xmas Confused) plays them regularly.

Is it a non-denominational or catholic school your after?
Lenzie Meadow is over subscribed, very very oversubscribed. I should think you would need to be in catchment and very lucky to get a place.

Most of the new builds in Woodilee pull to the bottom end of Kirky, much to the surprise of the residents, I’m told. The boundary line is just where the first tranche of Cala new builds ended, so most houses aren’t included.

I don’t know how Millersneuk is these days, it’s a one form entry so very small.

Lenzie Academy is not the school it was, I think Kirky high has a better rep/grade average now. Bishopbriggs High is the place to be. It doesn’t accept placing requests even if you’ve been to a feeder school it’s so popular. It’s got one of the best results in East Dumbartonshire.

Are you set on Lenzoe OP?

Thanks so much for that - very helpful.

I'm a Southsider by heart & not very familiar with the area/schools. I went to an East Ren school & am trying to find an equivalent north of the river.

The new job would be near Bishopbriggs so I'll look at that too. I hadn't realised the school there was so good.

I had phoned Lenzie Meadows before the holidays and there was a P6 place but not P2 - hardly surprising with all the new builds.

I'm waiting to hear back from Millersneuk & there's a 3rd - Lairdsland - as well. Although it seems more Kirky than anything.

I like the new builds in Lenzie & they are within budget. I guess the high school there historically has a better reputation - but looking at the league tables (I know, I know) Kirky is not far behind. And I have friends there.

I'll take more of a look at Bishopbriggs. I don't know the area at all but it would be a shorter commute.

More than anything, I need somewhere with school places!

Oh, and non-denominational.

And I'll need wrap around care for both DC initially.

I'm going to be calling schools on Monday morning & trying to suss our before/after school care too.

Urgh.

Ds played rugby at Allan Glen's (Bishopbriggs) from U16 to U18 (various complicated reasons why he didn't/couldn't play locally so I had to take him across the city for training/games Hmm) and his team mates who were at Bishopbriggs Academy seemed to do well there. Nice lads too - which is just as important Smile

Also knew a few from when he cycled (before he "chose" rugby) from the area who also did well.

Lairdsland has that brand new campus, looks lovely from the outside. If you wanted to pick a school on looks then that’s the one Grin.

Bishopbriggs has a brand new station on the outskirts so it’s even more commutable now.
