Going to Edinburgh this week to go round the markets and go to the theatre , does anyone have any suggestions of somewhere close by where we could get a cheap pre theatre with availability?

Which theatre - Kings, festival, playhouse?

dancemom · 17/12/2019 12:23

Sorry the playhouse 🙈

Oh there's quite a lot of cavernous restaurants near the playhouse that specialise in pre-(or post) theatre meals. Mama Roma/Giulianos for Italian or Kahani for Indian come to mind.

Broughton Street is very close too and has lots of nice little restaurants if you want something slightly more off the beaten track.

Giulianos is a lovely Italian restaurant opposite the Playhouse. We also rate Tony Macaronis in the Omni centre right by the playhouse if you're looking for cheap and cheerful family grub. Enjoy!

dancemom · 17/12/2019 14:27

Tried both Guillianos and Toni Macaronis, both fully booked 🙈

There are a few other restaurants in the Omni Centre, not sure how good there are. I like Howie's Waterloo Place which has an early dining menu, or if you don't mind being a few more minutes walk away up on North Bridge there is Prezzo, Pizza Express, Byron, Bella Italia, Pizza Hut.

Cafe Andeluz on George Street x

The Olive Branch in Broughton St is nice - but not mega/cheap.

There is always Cosmo & other restaurants in Omni centre right next door if you are really stuck.

dancemom · 18/12/2019 20:39

Even COSMO is fully booked!

I'm not much help, all the places I was going to recommend seem to be booked.

Apolloanddaphne · 18/12/2019 20:44

What about Amarone?

MakeMineALargeProsecco · 18/12/2019 21:24

The Educated Flea in Broughton St does a lovely pre-theatre.

dancemom · 18/12/2019 21:26

Also fully booked 🙈

You could probably get a table at Phuket, a lovely Thai restaurant across from the Playhouse. Lesser known as its tucked round a corner!

HundredYearOldMan · 18/12/2019 21:33

Or the Basement at the top of Broughton Street - Mexican

supercee · 18/12/2019 21:35

I like Pomegranate over the road if you like picky Middle Eastern food (and it's BYOB!). Haven't been there in a while mind you.

itgetshardereveryday · 20/12/2019 17:32

We're going to pomegranate on Saturday. It's actually licensed, it's sister restaurant is byob

dancemom · 20/12/2019 17:42

Thanks everyone but I've got 2 young picky eaters with me so Thai or tapas etc would t suit their needs

Looks like it will be a Wetherspoons
