Peebles high fire and what next?

So as you may of seen there was a massive fire at peebles high scheool yesterday.

Council say they'll be off until at least new year, but what about the prelim kids? What will they do? Open up burgh/drill halls?

The borders schools simply don't have the capacity to take on 1500+ pupils nevermind how bloody far apart we all are.

What do you think will happen?

P.S the gift box and daft dug are collecting coats for the kids that may well not have one now. I took two in this afternoon after witnessing the phs pupils being taken to our primary, the thought of seeing all those kids in shorts killed me my house is a 22+ house Grin

I'm not that near but will be taking coats in too. It's not easy, no other big spaces to decant to.

They’ll find ways to accommodate the kids at other nearby schools. Woodmill High is closed because of a fire in August and their pupils have been spread across a few different sites - conference centres, other high schools and the local college - by year group. It took a couple of weeks to sort it out but it was sorted pretty swiftly all things considered. Hopefully similar will happen for the kids at Peebles. It’s such a stressful situation for all involved.

The problem is that it's all pretty rural and schools aren't really that close, kids already get bussed in from pretty big catchment.

Dh went there and was trying to pinpoint where the fire was from his 1970s knowledge, he said it looked like the changing rooms. Such a shame as I'm sure there would be christmas stuff planned as well as the older years prelims.

nearest high schools would be in Penicuik but that's midlothian council. nearest Borders schools will be over 30 minutes away - either Biggar or Gala I would think.

We were talking about this last night - what a nightmare for S4/S5/S6 pupils and their parents. Where we are there are probably a dozen other secondary schools within 20 minutes, not the same for Peebles.

What about the primary schools in Peebles and surrounding areas, could they have spare space? Leisure centres? Total nightmare for all concerned.

My son was one of those in shorts and T-shirt!

Who knows where they are going to put all those kids, hopefully it has been contained and they will get back in after the Christmas break.
The priority has to be those students with prelims coming up.
It's not going to be easy to facilitate, my son and his peers are on the bus for 40mins to get to Peebles so the thought of them being bussed to Galashiels is hideous. I think local halls and primaries will be used. I know the rugby club in Peebles and the Drill Hall have been on the cards too.
