Domestic abuse court case- daughter is worried

Has anyone experienced their ex being charged with domestic violence? My daughters ex was arrested two days ago for attempting to break into her flat and take their year-old son. He was arrested that evening and now has a court date in 2 weeks. She is terrified he's going to plead not guilty and She will have to go and Be a witness in court. Does anyone have an experience with any of this kind of thing preferably in Scotland?

No experience, but I didnt want to leave you without a reply. Your poor daughter. I would give Scottish Women's Aid a call for some good advice. Hope she's doing ok.

If she has to be a witness someone can show her around the court first so it's more familiar.

Definitely local women's aid would be a good place to contact or Barnardos or another service might have support for domestic abuse.

If you want to pm me her town or region I can be more specific but Scottish women's aid have a page with local services.

Going to court will hopefully mean there's a record of how he has behaved which might help her if there's a civil case over contact.

As the Police were involved they have a safeguarding duty to inform the Children's Reporter (part of Children's Hearing Scotland), who will probably inform social work, as there is a child involved. Social Work will normally carry out an assessment, as your daughter has demonstrated that she is taking steps to protect their son, social work will be a valuable support as will advise about contact. Women's Aid will be able to support your daughter.

Sorry I only just noticed there were answers here! Thank you all.
So this week we’ve been told he is appearing in court on the 10th and will plead not guilty. I realise he could change this up until the day but we are preparing for the NG plea.
@EightWellies thank you- yes we spoke to someone from victim support who also recommended WA so will be in touch with them.

@SuperLoudPoppingAction that’s a great idea about visiting the court and we will follow that up. She spoke with a friend who used to work for victim support so now has a local contact there via her.

@serene12 she was called by her family nurse practitioner the day after as SW had contacted the FNP. Thankfully the FNP has known my dd since before the wee one was born and has a good knowledge of her and her standard of mothering. So she was able to reassure SW that dd would indeed always act in her sons best interests and that she had no concerns for his welfare from dd. We are hoping this nurse may be able to be a character witness if that’s an option for court.

Dd is doing well considering. But it’s a total mindfuck and she is now struggling with the usual post relationship upset plus the reality that she was in an abusive relationship which is making her feel awful and torn between feeling she should be glad to be rid of him and devastated that someone she thought loved her could do this. And she is 19 with a very active 1 year old so life is generally tough anyway... so she’s doing fab considering.
Thank you all. I will try to update as and when.
