Where’s best to raise family?

Hi all,

Just looking for some advice, me and my partner and our daughter are looking to relocate from England to Scotland within the next few years. We will never be able to afford a house where we are now and I don’t want to bring my little family up forever renting! We would love an area popular with families and I’d love for my children to be able to play outside with neighbours etc! My daughter won’t be starting school until 2022 but we would like to move to an area where the schools are known to perform well. We have family in the Renfrew area and my parents are moving up next year, potentially to Bishopton but nothing confirmed. We’re saving over the next few years so right now budget is unknown but no more than 300,000. Your help would be valued so much!

I'm in Stirling, that budget would get you something nice in a good area and it's a great area to raise kids. However sounds like you might want something further west? Where are you likely to get employment?

How about Houston? Great community feel & schools (Gryffe High).

I've not lived elsewhere in the UK but moved to Aberdeen because of DH. I suppose I cannot really compare but think Aberdeen is a good place to raise a family, although it may be considered too far away by most. We live in the city itself and still can drive to most places. Lots of green spaces and the beach sea close by. The schools are rated well. I find the weather is generally better and dryer than the west coast.

I live near where your parents are planning to move to, would be handy for your family too. Schools are v good my eldest in particular is doing really well in high school
