Hi ,

I've just booked flights from Ireland to visit Edinburgh & now I'm looking for accommodation which is turning out to be real difficult & so expensive Shock
Please can anybody recommend any decent fairly priced accommodation in or around Edinburgh?

We like the Hub hotels (part of Premier Inn) and usually stay at the one at Royal Mile. Can be pretty reasonable if you book ahead. Rooms are small but perfectly formed. Very clean and good facilities. You wouldn't want to stay a week in one but a few days is fine as you wont be in your room much.

when is it you are looking to go? Premier Inns themselves always good too, no character really but if you just want a bed for the night and to spend time out and about, they are fine. Obviously there are plenty of more upmarket options :)

I stayed in a travel lodge about 15-20 minutes walk from centre. Family room was about £170 for 3 nights family room including breakfast (4 of us) basic but did the job.

We stayed at The Hedges b&b, opposite Calton Hill. The lady who runs it was lovely and had all the knowledge (breakfast was amazing!!!). It's a 5 minute walk to the tram which is great for getting around.
Think we paid around £100 a night.

It depends on when you're going and why. Festival time v v busy. Accommodation further out will be cheaper.

"the tram which is great for getting around."

The tram in Edinburgh is only a single route, from York Place to the airport. They travel the length of Princes Street and pass Murrayfield Stadium and the zoo. Edinburgh buses are probably more useful to be honest and very cheap - £1.70 for any length of journey and £4.00 for a day ticket (which also can be used on the tram).

I can recommend the Grassmarket Hotel. Really central. One wall of the room has a large map of Edinburgh, opposite wall is made up of Beano covers. Free coffee in reception.

Staying over in Fife can be much cheaper. Inverkeithing is only 20 mins on a train into Haymarket, and Dunfermline only 35.

I’m guessing that you are NOT from Dublin OP? 😬
