Five months from now?

So this isn't a question as such, I'm just sitting here on a (cooler than has been) rainy day in Queensland dreaming of and getting so exited about moving back to Scotland! I suppose this weather reminds me of living there (and not in a bad way, I love cooler weather and do love watching/walking in rain from time to time).

We're planning on moving back in August all going well. Nothing organised as of yet but at least many of the items we brought over to Australia nearly two years ago are still in storage! So not too difficult to pack up (she says now) ha ha

I still have days of 'is this the right thing' and desperately wanting to know we're making the right move for all of us but I do think on balance it is. Even with all the constant government stuff ups in London and unsurety about companies staying the UK etc. it just feels right.

For as beautiful and (in many ways wonderful) Australia is we just hardly do anything outdoors due to the extreme heat and off the scale UV.

I'm looking forward to walking, riding and getting back out there. Visiting Lochs on the weekend and camping. Not feeling hot and sweaty most the year. Not putting on greasy suncream every day on everyone and reapplying throughout the day. Watching the rain and the snow from a cozy window. Seeing the blossoms come to life in Spring on Princes Street and the leaves change to every Autumnal colour in Perthshire in September/October. I really want to visit Orkney and Shetland at some stage over the next few years also. Plus so much more.

If anyone is in the same boat, what are you looking forward to?!

When we moved back it was the long summer nights that I loved -not getting dark until late. Beautiful day here today, snow on the ground but lovely and sunny. Can’t wait to wrap up and walk the dog. I understand what you mean as I found the summer months in Australia to be hard as it’s not enjoyable to be in that much heat and humidity. Mind you on Friday night when I was out running in the biting wind and sleet a bit of heat would have been welcomed!

Enjoy your last few months down under. August is a nice time to be coming back. We did it in the winter which was a bit of a shock.

Hi Skyrain. Sounds like you're well settled and enjoying it back there. Yes, I know I will miss some of the warmth, but I also know on balance I will not miss the extreme heat and UV more. We had thought about waiting until the end of the year but as you say, think it would be a bit of a shock to the system.

I do look forward to the long summer evenings as well.

How long were you in Australia and where abouts do you mind me asking?
