I quite often have to drive Glasgow to Perth. That bit at Bannockburn on the M80 where you come over the brow of a hill and suddenly the Highlands loom and Ben vorlich is seen for the first time since leaving town takes my breath away each and every time.

*Except today. Because it was all hidden by low cloud.

I love the drive over the Kingston Bridge, especially when it's clear and bright and you can see the whole city.

  • I do not have do it as a daily commute
ProseccoThyme · 20/10/2018 17:48

My commute is across the new Queensferry Crossing; it's breathtaking on a clear, sunny day.

Littlemissdemeanour · 20/10/2018 17:55

The A9 -Killiecrankie/ Atholl/Bruar

Stunning!

Piffpaffpoff · 20/10/2018 18:00

I used to work in Edinburgh and used to get off the bus in the West End on sunny mornings just to walk along Princes St and admire the castle and marvel at how folk come from around the world to see it and yet it’s my commute.

Now my favourite is driving to St Andrews from the east unit sure which road it is, I always get muddled ) but you just crest over a rise and suddenly you see the town, with the sea behind it and over to Angus and it’s lovely.

Nuggetsandwich · 20/10/2018 18:03

I used to work in Portsmouth and I love the view from Portsdown hill. Especially first thing as the sun is coming up, or at night when all the lights are on. I normally prefer more natural scenery but it's just so pretty.

MrsVietor · 20/10/2018 18:04

Crossing the Tay Bridge to see the new V&A.

And when you're driving home from holidays, round a bend and, oh look, it's Kinnoul Hill, we're nearly there

Veronicat · 20/10/2018 18:48

Driving past Dunure heading along the coast. The view over to Arran and Culzean Castle is breathtakingly beautiful...until you drive into the back of a bloody tourist at the electric brae!!

StoorieHoose · 20/10/2018 18:52

My favourite view is sitting on Loch Morlich beach on a beautiful sunny day and looking up to the left to see Cairngorm still with that wee bit of snow on it

Lidlfix · 20/10/2018 19:37

OP I get that too and the floating castle and monument on misty days. Hard to keep your eyes on the road at times. I love living in Stirling as no matter which direction you are coming home from there's a landmark to guide you back.

VintageFur · 20/10/2018 23:00

Lidlfix - I sometimes shop at the opposition - Sainsbury's - and I stand putting my shopping in the boot just staring at the hills past the monument. What a dork! 😁

I love the waterfront at Dundee too. How are you supposed to keep your eyes on the road?

Drove out to comrie the other day. Wow wow wow.

Stoorie - haha yes! Aviemore can be rocking a 25 degree day thick with midgies and there's still - and always will be - snow stuck to the side of the hills. Blew my brains as a kid.

Prosecco - did the bridge last week by accident as I missed my turn off. Beautiful day for it though. Grin

I recently spent 7 weeks in Scotland for work (lots of locations across the country), having only visited once before. I spent a lot of time thinking, "Fuck me, it's beautiful here". (And a lot of time thinking, "When is it going to stop raining?" Grin)

NymanPerkins · 20/10/2018 23:11

Moved to Scotland 20 years ago from England. I live in the east neuk of Fife and every day I count my blessings. The light here is phenomenal. There’s a reason why it’s home to so many painters. And as for rain, Dundee is just over the bridge and known as the sunshine city. Scientifically proven to have more sunshine than a great mant uk cities.

SheSparkles · 20/10/2018 23:14

The view over the Tay from the upstairs restaurant window of the Ship Inn in a Broughty Ferry

The V&A, every time I pass it, I see something different in its shape

HemlockStarglimmer · 21/10/2018 07:26

Piffpaffpoff
That view lifts my heart every time. I know I'll be home very shortly.

Grangemouth Oil refinery at night is pretty cool as a non traditional view.

Thomasinaa · 29/10/2018 16:25

For me, October is the best month in Scotland. The colours and the light.

flubbadubble · 29/10/2018 16:37

I live in North East Scotland now and it may not be much to some but the Kessock Bridge and the hills behind coming in to view on the way back to Inverness shire is just home for me.

LadyBaneGrey · 29/10/2018 16:48

The view from my parents’ house near Portobello. Fife, the sea with all the boats, East Lothian and North Berwick Law. Just beautiful, especially on days like today.

Superjaggy · 29/10/2018 22:34

Another vote for the Kessock Bridge! I drive past Culloden Battlefield into Inverness every day and the view to the bridge and beyond to Ben Wyvis, and over to the Torridons on a clear autumn day, is just stunning.

Piffpaffpoff · 29/10/2018 22:44

We are often up north and yes, the view as you crest the last hill on the A9 before Inverness is just lovely, especially when the hills have a dusting of snow on them.

Thomasinaa · 30/10/2018 10:33

Would love to see more photos!

Groovee · 30/10/2018 15:35

I work in South Queensferry and the drive up the slip road from Edinburgh to the round about the view of all 3 bridges is amazing.

AmIthatbloodycold · 30/10/2018 21:06

Drove the A85 today. The bit where you come out of Crieff and head down to gilmerton was
Breathtaking
