Every day views that take your breath away

I quite often have to drive Glasgow to Perth. That bit at Bannockburn on the M80 where you come over the brow of a hill and suddenly the Highlands loom and Ben vorlich is seen for the first time since leaving town takes my breath away each and every time.

*Except today. Because it was all hidden by low cloud.

I love the view across to the Campsies, especially when there is snow on them, as you're coming off the M77 onto the M8.

The other view I used to love was the silhouette of St Andrews as you turned a corner after Guardbridge and saw the town ahead of us.

Tangofandango · 30/10/2018 23:51

Nuggetsandwich the view from Portsdown Hill is my favourite view in the world. I drive over the hill 2 or 3 times a week and often pull into the viewpoint to just sit and look. And the sunsets are amazing.

haggisaggis · 31/10/2018 11:53

I commute back and forth from Arbroath to central Scotland 3 times a week. Too many great views to mention but:
The coast at Carnoustie looking across to Tentsmuir
V&A Dundee with the Discovery (brilliant at night when it's all lit up)
Views of Perth & river Tay from the Friarton Bridge
Looking across to the mountains when the M90 turns the corner at Perth
Drive from Perth down the Cairnie Brae where you are often above the cloud line
Stirling Castle
The Kelpies
will I stop now?!

I only discovered Scotland about 10 years ago, I’d never realised just how breathtakingly amazing the scenery was. I’m there at every given opportunity now .

missyB1 · 31/10/2018 11:59

I live in Gloucestershire, the views from some of our Cotswold hills are just so pretty.

SilverbytheSea · 31/10/2018 11:59

Veronicat - that’s a daily view for us too, we’ve just moved out of living on the Culzean estate, the sunset views over Arran are breathtaking. Girvan beach to Alisa Craig as well.

Veronicat · 01/11/2018 07:17

@SilverbytheSea
Oh lucky you. We looked at a cottage on the estate when we moved up here a few years ago. Lovely place to live.

sandgrown · 01/11/2018 07:27

Saddleworth Moor when I reach the summit of the M62. It is a place with sad memories (Moors Murders) but stunning in a wild way .

sandgrown · 01/11/2018 07:28

Morecambe Bay and the great view of the Lake District on a clear day

Eminybob · 01/11/2018 07:34

The Cat and Fiddle road from Cheshire to Derbyshire. It’s actually a bit bleak, but the vastness of the bleakness makes it strangely beautiful and takes my breath away (still, and I have been driving that road to work every week for the last 5 years!)

Notthisnotthat · 02/11/2018 06:31

The Rest and be Thankful, amazing view.

I drive a lot in Dundee, Perthshire and East Fife, and take the scenery for granted, but I love this time of year, the colours are spectacular and with the falling leaves you can see different things than you do when the leaves are full.

Love living here.

LongDiscoClara · 02/11/2018 06:35

The view from Ardrossan North shore to Arran. Amazing sunsets, mist, snow, I never tire of it.

Ginmakesitallok · 02/11/2018 06:40

Agree about the bit driving to St Andrews from East neuk, but also the boot on the a77 towards Stranraer when you come over the hill and the sea is just in front of you. Stunning

NotyourMummynotyourmilk · 02/11/2018 06:44

The descent of Winnats Pass I love It.

backaftera2yearbreak · 02/11/2018 06:46

Loch Rannoch in the snow. Nairne beach. Falls of breur. Driving from Edinburgh to Dumfries there’s a strech of that goes through a stunning valley almost and I canny remember what it’s called...

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 02/11/2018 06:55

My commute is in and out of Inverness on the road north. I love the view as I come over the Black Isle and see the Cromarty bride. It looks different all the time.
I feel lucky every day that I’m surrounded by all this and love that I have so many beautiful places right on my doorstep.

Pootle40 · 02/11/2018 07:00

Some of mine from Wester Ross

Pootle40 · 02/11/2018 07:01

Ok that didn't work for some reason

foxyknoxy30 · 02/11/2018 07:03

When I drive down a local road and see the campsies stunning in the right light

DivaDroid · 02/11/2018 07:09

Bennachie from our living room window - especially when there's a beautiful sunset.
The A96, just past Tyrebagger before you go down the hill to Blackburn - stunning views right across to the Cairngorms.
Newburgh beach, Spey Bay & the Aberdeen promenade.
Possibly outing, but the Whin Roadie viewpoint in Oldmeldrum on a clear day - you can see for miles!
Love living in Aberdeenshire 😍

Yes and from the train heading towards west Kilbride as the sun hits the calderas on Arran, Jura in the distance - sex on a stick as DH (ex RN) says.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 04/11/2018 12:59

The view from the back of my house, including the kitchen, conservatory and my bedroom. Even after 12 years in this house, I still love it.

We look out over only one house (a smallholding), a natural loch, fields and the Ochil hills in the distance. It's what made us buy the house.

maldivemoment · 04/11/2018 13:20

The A82 drive along the side of Loch Lomond and through Glencoe. It does something to your soul, especially this time of year.
