Just found out I've got a job in morningside. (currently live in NE enland). So need to get school sorted asap. 7 and 4 yr old so looking for P3 and nursery places. Would love to drop the commute and walk, so wondering about places at s morningside, sciennes, gillespies and bruntsfield. Thoughts, comments, advice? Planning on trying to find good school availability then looking to rent in catchment. Feeling quite stressed.

All.of these schools are good, popular schools and will have limited spaces. You're unlikely to get a space confirmed without living in the catchment area.as none will have open spaces for out of catchment requests, so ideally you need to.choose one and rent in that area. Morningside is a lovely area and I'm sure you'll be very happy there!

Thanks you. Maybe i'll be able to get to sleep now! Just worried they will all be completely choca and we'll have to send the kids miles away or to a less good school. Morningside is fab tho if it all works out.

If you’re in catchment you’ll get a place in the primary school. Nursery are trickier but again being in place will help. When would you need places.

I think we'd need places for january. Nursery is less critical tho as have grandparents nearby and we should be able to get 4yr old registered at within catchment school for p1 if we can get a rented address in time for p1 admissions deadline. It's really the p3 place i was more concerned about. Do u think there will be spaces available in january at any of the schools i mentioned?

It’s impossible to say but there are often more spaces after p1 because p1 classes are smaller. If it’s January coming you can probably phone and ask. Some school have been a bit secretive with it but I’ve been he position before where I’ve phoned 2 or 3 and they give you a straight answer. They want bums on seats.

Just to clarify. The council only have to offer you a place in your catchment school in advance of the p1 intake. You can call the school offices directly anytime to see if they have space for your p3. Your catchment school does not have to offer a place to your p3 - only if there’s room. All of those schools you mention are very overcrowded and morningside is on a very polluted main road into town.
