Child Friendly Dentist Glasgow

DC is very nervous at the dentist. They were fine when younger but as they have become older (10 now), they've become more anxious. tbh they're more anxious about everything not just the dentist. They've never had a bad experience at the dentist.
Our current dentist is quite impatient and it's not really working. Can anyone recommend a dentist that is good with anxious children? TIA

I'm not in Glasgow so can't make a particular recommendation, but might be worth going to a larger practice or one of the more "commercial" ones since they will have a few dentists to choose from. They also have a high turnover so if you don't like the one you have, another will be along soon..

Do you know what it is they are afraid of? Is it the thought of treatment, the potential embarrasment of needing something done etc?

If they generally have a good standard of teeth and haven't needed treatment, maybe going back to basics and just getting them to sit in the chair and progress to actually having their teeth checked?

or see if you can get a referral to a community dentist, though I'm not sure if you can self-refer or if it is your current dentist who refers you; they will be very friendly and patient, with gas and air etc. if necessary

Tbh he is just afraid of everything atm. He's been ill and had various tests/medical appointments so that has made him anxious and slightly distrustful since some of the medical appointments have hurt.
I think going back to just getting comfortable in the dentist environment is a good idea. He hasn't needed any invasive treatment so far.

That's a shame, I hope he is feeling better now. Maybe just taking him along to your own appointments and as many others as you can get him into would be a start. It sounds as if his dental position is fairly positive so whilst it's not ideal to miss check ups, he's probably not at the highest risk.

I had a lot of treatment as a child by a not very child friendly dentist and as a consequence, I didn't go at all for 20 years. Now I have no issue with it at all and even had a small filling done with no anaesthetic. Just make sure he works hard with his teethbrushing etc in the meantime :)

The dental practice in Douglas Street in the city centre is very good. We see Stuart McCarte who was very good with ds as soon as he was old enough to go to see the dentist. He's also very good with dh who used to hate going to the dentist

As far as I am aware, they are still taking NHS patients.

Only disadvantage is that it is city centre parking. Although you can usually get a space right outside, it can get expensive if they're running late
