My dd has just been advised that she will be doing the above, how common is this in Scottish schools?

My DCs school doesn't do early presentation for anything now - they used to for music and maths. Top maths classes finish national 5 work at end of S3 and spend S4 on starting higher before going back to revise national 5.

Being presented for Nat 5 exam in S3 or beginning the course? Beginning the course most schools do in varying forms some more covertly than others. Early presentation is unusual but not unknown . Gifted mathematicians, musicians, speakers of other languages can be presented early. Have known children come up from primary to S2/3 classes as their mathematical skill surpasses primary and S2 curriculum.

If you object say so as depending on your DC age within year sitting a prelim at 13 can simply be too overwhelming regardless of mathematical skill.

If you think they're ready on all levels then great might reduce pressure in S4 as that's one bagged!

Would the school be presenting at Higher in S4 might be of a concern for me.
