Great to see the polar bears thriving.
Snowball is my vote for a name.

How exciting :o

Love the way that they waited deliberately of course Wink until there was snow on the ground before taking a photo that they could release! Grin

Super cute. I am old enough to remember the cub at Edinburgh Zoo, think it was sponsored by Fox's Glacier Mints.

Might take a wee trip up to Aviemore in the Easter holidays.

PurpleFrog · 07/03/2018 16:30

Oh - yes that Edinburgh Zoo cub was called "Wee Sweetie"! Had completely forgotten about it until you mentioned it...

Lovely news! DD and I will be going along for a nosy at Easter, I think Smile

Oh - yes that Edinburgh Zoo cub was called "Wee Sweetie

Wasn't it called Minty? or was that another one?

PurpleFrog · 08/03/2018 15:07

Just done some googling. Looks like we were both right! Grin

"On 18. November 1988 she gave birth to a male cub, the first polar bear cub of the zoo, that was born in Edinburgh and survived. The little polar bear was first baptised Wee Sweetie and became soon a star in Edinburgh. He even won more fame, when he became the mascot of Fox’s Glacier Mints, the leading, branded boiled mint in the UK, that has often been advertising with polar bears. As a result he got the name Minty. On 28 March 1990 he was moved to the Zoo Antwerp, where they again gave him a new name To-nuik. He died there unexpectedly on 19. June 1994. The cause of death couldn’t be determined."

Yes Sad

MrsJayy · 13/03/2018 10:11

I remember the EZ cub. [Sad] The director of HWP was on tv last week he said the bear keepers just go to victorias &cub enclosure and you know when cub is out by the high pitched squeals Grin
