Sensible decision.

We're beginning to run a bit low too Shock

We've got plenty of pasta and rice so we wouldn't starve or anything but I really hope we can get out tomorrow.

And on that note, I really feel dreadfully sorry for anyone in a cold house or worrying about feeding kids :(

I've just bought an expensive loaf of artisan bread from the greengrocer (the other two corner shops were out of all bread) and have started making a loaf of sour dough myself (but it takes 24 hours from when I start Hmm). So at least we're ok in the short term Wink

We're having carbonara tonight (I'm low carbing, so I will do myself a courgette version). I also have a pheasant in the freezer, so we are ok for the weekend. How pretentious is that! Grin

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/03/2018 16:31

Agree oldtime we are warm and have food, maybe just not what we'd choose as freezer is full of stuff with too many calories for our diet. I do really feel for those that are struggling. Kids not being in school means no free school dinner.

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/03/2018 16:34

keep the pheasant for Sunday!

I don't have the right flour in for bread but could manage chapatis or maybe pizza bases if I can find any yeast.

prettybird · 01/03/2018 16:57

I have enough leftover roast beef from last weekend to do a stir fry - but would need to go along to the greengrocers to get more veg (ds would object to just broccoli and carrots in it Wink). Also have a frozen chicken breast and probably another one hiding in the depths of the freezer to make chicken nuggets.

Have plenty of eggs, so can make frittata (with shallots and peas). Might also make dh and ds some of dh's favourite gingery, cinnamony biscuits while we're stuck inside.

We're nearly out of granola but have the ingredients to make more (as we've run out of choco rice and cornflakes). Ds doesn't realise how fortunate he is to have a mum that can cook and bake! Grin

It's snowing again in Glasgow - despite snow no longer being forecast Confused

WickedGoodDoge · 02/03/2018 08:02

I have yeast in the freezer plus bread flour so can make bread if needed. Grin Might make some dinner rolls actually. I also have a tin of pumpkin purée and have a great Nigella pumpkin scone recipe so could make those plus am baking snickerdoodles today for DD to have with her 126736467 mug of hot chocolate.

Am going to attempt a trip to Sainsbury’s this morning. the neighbours dug out our cul de sac yesterday and the main bit isn’t looking too bad. Will bring a shovel just in case. Grin

EmyRoo · 02/03/2018 08:27

I don’t have a freezer (no space). I am going to have to be creative with what we have. I think we will be fine till tomorrow, Sunday at a push and then it is on to pasta and rice.
This will out me, but rather past caring - I need to get across Glasgow to take DC to court-ordered contact tomorrow. What do you think my chances are? I am hoping I can get a bus or train into town, stay in a coffee shop till it is finished, and get a bus home again.

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/03/2018 09:03

According to DH, both Sainsburys and Tesco were shut yesterday, he had a bit of bother finding somewhere to get petrol for the ambulance! We've had more snow overnight and some drifting but I think they seem to be getting a better result on the main roads and might be some news with buses maybe restarting later toady. Still no trains.

Depends where you are starting from Emy. In Stirling they say that they may have some bus service running into Glasgow today.

WickedGoodDoge · 02/03/2018 11:16

I triumphed at Sainsbury’s. Grin Got some of the last milk - seemingly Morrison’s round the corner was out. Main road was OK, others, well, aten’t. DH is now away off to collect his brother from Harthill to get him home to Whitburn. He’s been stuck in Glasgow since Wednesday. DH is not looking forward to this drive at all!

prettybird · 02/03/2018 11:18

You should be ok by tomorrow emyroo . I think FirstBus have started running a limited service again today. Even if the trains aren't running again (or regularly), if you can get to the subway, it was running yesterday (Outer Circle only), so I presume it is running today.

Our Sainsbury's Local shut at 3 yesterday (5 the day before, apparently), but I've got no idea how well stocked it was, as I managed to get milk and expensive bread at the closer greengrocer. The roads still seem quite treacherous.

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/03/2018 11:49

My neigbours ventured out this morning and have returned with cartons of UHT milk. I'm guessing that's not what they usually drink so must be all that's available. I have UHT milk anyways as we always keep it in for those times when you are caught out. It's fine for cereal and drinking but you can't really cook with it and it goes funny in tea/coffee apparently.

EmyRoo · 02/03/2018 12:47

thank you Flowers I think if we walk to the main road, then some buses will be running tomorrow, so we will need to work around that. It is easier than trying to get things changed. Scarves and woolly hats needed.

I do appreciate the work everyone is doing to get traffic and public transport moving, it has been unprecedented amounts in a short space of time, I think.

dementedpixie · 02/03/2018 14:25

These are the milk and bread aisles in my local big Tesco today. People had multiple loaves in their trollies. I got a loaf each for my mum and my sister as their local places have had none for 3 days. I then had to drive over to them to deliver them.

Dh texted me from Sainsbury's to say the world had ended!

EmyRoo · 02/03/2018 19:43

We got milk direct from a dairy van at the corner today. I was shovelling snow and someone told me milk was arriving in 45 minutes. And then sure enough, the dairy van arrived and people came from all directions, and bought milk. Then after about ten minutes, it was like it never happened. Amazing.

Maybe the magic bread van will come by tomorrowGrin Hopefully when I am there.

trixymalixy · 02/03/2018 21:21

I’m feeling quite smug about my emergency milk I keep in the bottom drawer of my freezer Grin.

EmyRoo · 02/03/2018 21:34

Well you might, Trixy as I lack both a freezer and any kind of emergency supplies.

WickedGoodDoge · 02/03/2018 21:39

West Lothian have announced that secondary schools will be back on Monday but primary schools will remain shut- not enough resources to get all schools open and with exams coming up, the high schools are getting priority. People are having fits at the Council on fb!

Garmadonsmum · 02/03/2018 23:44

I wouldn't have expected that Wickedgooddoge!
For working parents primaries being off is worse than secondaries. But they are right that there are far more primaries and exams are coming up.
Someone on Facebook asking when the schools will make up the days missed!

trixymalixy · 02/03/2018 23:51

Emmyroo, if it helps we have no bread!! Blush

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/03/2018 00:17

We've been warned to expect a reduced/altered menu for school meals next week as they are lacking deliveries. My two take a packed lunch but that also might be limited if no-one has any bread deliveries by Sunday!

EmyRoo · 03/03/2018 07:05

Do you have yeast and flour, Trixy? Though if you did, I guess you would have thought of that solution.

A snowplough has just been up our streetSmile

MoreProsecco · 03/03/2018 07:45

Our schools in Ediburgh will supposedly reopen on Monday; they have sent an email requesting parents come to schools & help clear out the snow from the grounds.

However, the final decision will be made at 3pm on Sunday.

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/03/2018 14:32

Been to the very large sainsburys - no milk of any kind (well they had some chocolate milk tbf) No sliced loafs, we got some thins and flat breads and then DH bagged an unsliced seeded loaf from the bakery which was still warm....damn you diet!!! No strong flour, no bread mixes, no yeast. There was no UHT milk left either but we still have a few pints.

Got some general groceries when were in - not everything I would normally buy but enough to do us a few days until normality resumes.

trixymalixy · 03/03/2018 14:46

I do have yeast and flour. Unfortunately the yeast is well out of date!!

DH and I are trying not to eat much bread anyway and we got some thins for the kids.
