So very sorry that people have died before Christmas :( It is dreadful.

Just awful. It could have been much worse if it was earlier on, but those poor people. So close to Christmas.

Hauntedlobster · 18/12/2017 19:14

It’s terrible, so sad this near to Christmas

Balfe · 18/12/2017 19:16

I just keep thinking of an overnight as someone's Christmas present to their loved one :(

Jesus. There but the grace of God.

So sad, tragic for the families of those who lost their lives and terrifying for guests, staff, emergency services and all who were there. We have such happy memories of the warm welcome and wonderful atmosphere of Cameron house, we were there last year. As a hotel they worked so hard and were so proud of everything they were achieving.

Have they said where it started?

IHaveBrilloHair · 18/12/2017 19:19

It's awful, I'm only ten minutes away and as a weird coincidence it came up on my FB memories today as DD and I had lunch at Martin Wishart's there 6 years ago.

IHaveBrilloHair · 18/12/2017 19:21

I've heard it was a Christmas tree but not confirmed, just passing rumour, it keeps popping up on my FB feed.

Nyx · 19/12/2017 00:30

Yes, it's such a tragic thing. Someone I know was staying overnight last night with her husband for a wee Christmas treat - they are safe and ok but it's really brought it home how it could happen to anyone. I was so sorry to hear about the fatalities. I understand there's a lot of damage to the hotel too, I think it is a listed building? Such a shame, the whole thing.

I'm not a regular on Scotsnet but came over to see if there was a thread. CH is a very special place to my family and I am so sad reading about this, such a tragedy, especially for the bereaved families. It's such a friendly hotel and it sounds as though the staff were amazing during the fire and aftermath. I hope it can be rebuilt quickly as it is such a major contributor to the local economy.

Such a tragedy. The footage on tv looked quite bad. The poor guests and staff having to go through this. Feeling for the families of those who lost their lives x

Idreamofalandrover · 19/12/2017 09:04

After seeing the TV footage I expected it to be far woorse, but still it's horrific.

I caught a sea plane there for lunch a few years ago, lovley place :(

LunasSpectreSpecs · 19/12/2017 12:24

It could have been so much worse - DH and I have stayed in so many hotels where the fire alarm has gone off and you just automatically assume that it's a false alarm or some drunken fool having a laugh.

Awful just before Christmas though.

HLBug · 19/12/2017 12:29

So sad. The image of the firefighters lifting out that toddler and carrying him down the ladder had me in tears this morning. Made me think of the Glasgow bin lorry crash from 3 years ago - these things are awful at any time of year, but especially at Christmas. Hopefully the investigators will find the source and measures can be put in place to make sure other places and people don’t go through a similar horror.
