Anyone know where Dundee station reasonably well?

Dd1 is going to Dundee this afternoon for a meeting. She will have 45mins before her train back to Glasgow and will be starving. Is there anyway where very close to the station to grab a quick bite. She's not fussy about what, as long as it's quick and nearby.

Thanks Flowers

Folk cafe - head up the hill from the station into town, and it's on the corner next to the bingo hall and opposite H&M and Next in the overgate shopping centre. Lovely food!

Best bet nip into cafe at the Discovery Point cafe roughly opposite the station?

Town is a bit of a trek at the mo (waterfront being redeveloped)

RinonaWyder · 24/10/2017 08:01

There's a sandwich shop in the station itself, not very big but she should be able to get something.

SangriaInTheSun · 24/10/2017 08:07

Thanks all. Should have said it will be around 7.30pm though. Will any of the places mentioned above still be open?

Discovery Point and Folk Cafe are both nice. Discovery Point, as PP said is directly opposite the station and so very close at hand. Also its a nice view!

Station is a total mess. Doubt she will even get a coffee at that time. Was there 2 weeks ago and it was just a wee coffee stand which I am guessing is shut at that time. She would be better going to a coffee shop in the town. Henry’s in the city square is open till 8. Grab something there and walk down to the station

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 24/10/2017 08:10

Sorry at half 7 I don't know. The cafe will be closed. Discovery Point may be open? Really not sure.

Malmaison is within walking distance.

Notthisnotthat · 24/10/2017 08:17

The overrate shopping centre is pretty close to the station, it has five guys, Costa, Starbucks, spud u like and a noodle bar.

Notthisnotthat · 24/10/2017 08:17

Overgate!

DonkeyOaty · 24/10/2017 08:19

Oh sorry. Discovery cafe shuts at 6pm. Maybe she can get a sandwich from somewhere before her meeting?

SangriaInTheSun · 24/10/2017 08:23

Looks like Overgate and Discovery Point both closed by that time. Any chippies or McDonalds close by? She'll be getting to the station by taxi lugging a large saxophone case with her so can do a slight detour if need be.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Much appreciated.

McDonald’s in Reform street will still be open, I don’t know when the overgate closes but there is lots of food places in there. Where is her meeting?

RoseDog · 24/10/2017 08:27

Ok! The train station is close to the Perth road, there is a chip shop, The Tailend and Dr Noodles quite close to each other.

RoseDog · 24/10/2017 08:30

McDonald’s might be an issue as there is no traffic allowed in the city centre, she could get a taxi to McDonald’s then it would be quicker walking to the station than getting a taxi, but might be a pain to walk with her instrument!

Ethelswith · 24/10/2017 08:37

It's a while since I was there, but couldn't she walk to the big Tesco?

MissFlashpants · 24/10/2017 08:44

Yes, at that time probably Tesco is your best bet. Tell her to take a right when she leaves the station, it'll be a five minute walk along the road next to the river. There's a Costa in it, but don't know what time it closes.

SangriaInTheSun · 24/10/2017 08:48

Her meeting is in Emmock Woods and she should be out by 7.15 and her train is 7.40 so not much time. Never been to Dundee so doesn't know the area at all. Think she might need to buy something before she leaves Glasgow just to be safe.

Will have a look at the chop shop in Perth road though. If that's doable it would be ideal.

Thanks

I think she would be best to get something before hand, Emmock woods to the station isn't the quickest journey, I don't think she would have time to stop somewhere.

Notthisnotthat · 24/10/2017 09:20

Google maps has the journey as 14 mins, so if she has finished at 7.15, it would be cutting it fine, best book a taxi before hand too, local taxi numbers are 01382 505050 or 01382 450450

SangriaInTheSun · 24/10/2017 09:22

Oh no! It said about 3 miles on google maps. Will it be longer?

You are a star! Thanks so much. Will there be taxis outside the station or should she book one to be on the safe side? She only has 16 mins between her train getting in and her meeting although she can be a tiny bit late as he knows she coming a fair distance.

This has all been very last minute. Dd1 was under the impression that her tutor was in Edinburgh! She only asked for the address last night to find out it was Dundee Shock

Bless her, she's quite happy to travel a 5 hour round trip though. Just doesn't have any real gap for food.

Emmock woods to the city centre via car is quite a long journey! I can see Emmock woods out my window, I probably wouldn’t risk stopping for food!

RoseDog · 24/10/2017 10:35

It’s quite a journey and the KINGSWAY is a bit slow because they are doing maintenance in the evenings and night and the Forfar road may slow too! Because I know the area I would get a taxi to the primary school and walk to the house but if I was from out of town I don’t know if I would be as confident!

How did your daughter get on?

SangriaInTheSun · 26/10/2017 16:09

She was fine, she got a taxi there which was only a tenner and her tutor was kind enough to give her a lift back to the station. No time for food but she got something in Glasgow before she left.

I'm actually quite proud of her for hoofing such a distance on her tod. she's 18 but still It was a long day but she absolutely loved it, he was helping her prepare for an audition and she feels much more confident now.

Thanks for all the advice. Really helpful, especially taxi numbers.
