Art Higher - advice

Hello,

Dd did okay in her Art Nat 5 but seems daunted and very anxious about the Higher, she loves art but has been told it is very difficult to achieve a good grade in the Higher. I'm not really sure how to help her.

Anyone got any advice/recent experience of the Art Higher and what we can do, if anything to help. I feel like I'm walking on eggshells, for maths/English/French or History it would be fairly easy to support her - they don't seem to get homework for Art.

Indirect experience DS2s GF and BF both did H art this year .GF got an A but BF got a C. Both got As at Nat 5. GF says that she and her friend are equally good at drawing but she spent much more time on her design portfolio and did better in the written exam. Her English is very good and she finds it easy to write about art. Friend loves drawing but finds the written stuff pretentious. Not sure about homework but GF was always trying out things for her portfolio and takes photos for ideas.

I am interested in the response you get as my DD will be in a similar position next year.

Thanks ttlsh - I've had a look at the criteria from the SQA page and I'm going to print it off too, gives a breakdown in the marking.

DD is also good at writing, I think it helped her get a good grade in her Nat 5.
