I am too excited Smile
Do you remember when they thought she was pregnant last time, but sadly wasn't, but she continued to 'pretend' to be pregnant so she got more treats and food? Iced buns IIRC Smile

Groovee · 26/08/2017 15:57

I'll believe it when I see it.

MrsJayy · 27/08/2017 16:34

I too will just wait and see we have been here before every year since they came tbh cynical me nooo

OOAOML · 30/08/2017 12:23

Like others, I'll believe it when I see it. The flurry of 'panda pregnancy' stories does seem to raise less excitement year after year.

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/08/2017 12:47

I think the way it's going, when and if a baby panda ever arrives, we'll all just be "meh!" :o

MrsJayy · 31/08/2017 14:36

I know be like personally hate Edinburgh zoo so ive not seen the adults so a baby wouldn't draw me but i think breeding is part of the lease agreement with china or something

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 31/08/2017 14:37

Aren't the pandas becoming a bit of an albatross?

I'm sure the zoo is losing money because of them. Sadly, they just aren't that interesting.

MrsJayy · 31/08/2017 14:43

I think you are right a milion they need to re-coup Shock

CoolCarrie · 31/08/2017 20:38

Frankly if the Chinese stopped slaughtering rhinos, elephants and other animals, for their stupid so called medicines then I might care more about pandas!

Viviennemary · 01/09/2017 14:21

Me too. I'll believe it when I see it. I'm not comfortable with taking creatures out of the wild and then complaining when they don't breed to order. In fact I totally disapprove. And completely agree about the Chinese medicine. Awful.

We were at Edinburgh Zoo at Easter and I was so disappointed by the whole thing. I totally understand why the Zoo has pursued a policy of thinning out its collection and providing good environments for a few animals rather than poor conditions for loads of animals but basically, there's not much left apart from penguins, chimps and pandas. We were also at Chester Zoo this summer and that was amazing, twice as good as Edinburgh.

They must be DESPERATE for a cub - they're paying $1million a year for these blasted things which won't breed. The zoo saw a surge in visitor numbers when the pandas arrived and this has now tailed off, a cub might help them get numbers up again.

Longer term though I think they need to accept that Corstorphine Hill is a really crap location for a zoo and they either need to close, or move somewhere with loads of space and start again.

paganmolloy · 02/09/2017 18:21

I seriously could not give a shit. Every so often this makes headline news and turns out nothing. I've nothing against the pandas per se but no other creature gets the same "ooh the female might be up the duff" treatment like pandas do. Tell us and show us when the cub is born, until then, please media, shut up and let them alone to get jiggy with it.

An aside: Since they only eat bamboo shoots and are fertile for two days a year, evolution hasn't really happened for them has it? No wonder they are endangered.

MoreProseccoNow · 03/09/2017 08:38

I live near the zoo, but rarely/never go as it's so expensive- plus my kids have more interest in the playpark than the animals.

The pandas seem to be sleeping whenever we have been.

Five Sisters Zoo is so much better; they se to have more emphasis on animal conservation & better enclosures as well as a sodding playpark.

Cailleach666 · 03/09/2017 17:23

Whole situation is beyond horribe

BaffledMummy · 07/09/2017 15:52

So I guess it was another false alarm?

Groovee · 11/09/2017 11:18

Gordon Chree just said on Twitter that the panda won't be giving birth!

MoreProseccoNow · 11/09/2017 15:48

It's on the BBC news website that the panda is not pregnant.
