So DH, DD (just turned 1), 2 cats and I currently live in Falkirk. We moved from Dalry two years ago to be closer to my work. I handed in my notice while on may leave and am a full time mum, DH works next to Waverley so we're going to move back to Edinburgh. We've decided on a few areas we like - Colinton and surroundings, Corstorphine/East Craigs and Favidsons

Urgh, fat fingers!
...Davidsons Mains/Silverknowes. Does anyone have any positive or negative experiences of those areas?

Davidsons mains is lovely and the school is nice too. Silverknowes as well... same school for both areas.

Colinton is lovely and nice community feel, Bonaly school is good and regular bus services to centre of town. Lots of nice walks , water of Leith , Spylaw park - active mother and baby groups www.facebook.com/colintonbabyandtoddlergroup/ . Not a cheap area to live in though so depends on your property budget.

I have lived in Spylaw/Colinton and Currie and love this area. Where we are is out of the way, very quiet and no trouble. Lots of lovely walks and good local amenities and schools.

We looked at corstorphine and Davidsons mains before we moved.
Corstorphine is so quick into town, tonnes of buses, loved the views of the hills at every turn.
But the primary was full so that was that. I also preferred DM school for having a playing field, whereas corstorphine is all tarmac.

What are your must haves?

RoganJosh · 06/08/2017 22:04

Ha, I already answered your thread in the Edinburgh board!

Silverknowes it is worth watching the catchment boundaries as there are a small number of houses with Silverknowes addresses (as in being called Silverknowes XXXX) which actually feed to Craigroyston. Plus you get estate agent are naming going on (Muirhouse/Drylaw/Ferry Gait being called "Silverknowes"

The full catchment maps are on the council website.

DH is a cop. I tend to rule out places if I hear the name too often in his work chat. One that basis I'd watch Davidsons Mains due to its proximity to Drylaw

RoganJosh · 09/08/2017 09:37

The insurance premiums are fine though for DM, even right on the edge of Drylaw. We looked into a house two streets away and were concerned but then reassured.

Brilliant, thanks everyone. I think we're set on Davidsons Mains as I love the village feeling and the fact that there's loads of outdoors stuff nearby. Viewing a place in half an hour, fingers crossed it's the one.

Good luck with the viewing - I stay nearby & it's a great area.
