Right, I might be made redundant from my niche job so I'm think about retraining. What other then teaching or nursing are there vacancies in?I'm hoping to stay in Scotland so thought I'd ask here.

No idea what qualifications they look for, but they always seem to be looking for Business Analysts/Project Analysts, also engineering if you have a few years to spare :)

What was your niche area?

Have a look at digital world.net

i agree - business analysis, project management, testing - relatively easy to get into and quite a few transferable skills

do you have a degree? How about doing a conversion masters? They are available in areas such as psychology, law, engineering, computing, surveying. Im away to start surveying one in September as apparently there is a shortage of surveyors :D

A conversion Masters sounds interesting, I never realised you could do that. I have an undergraduate degree & a Masters.

I only managed a "2" in standard grade maths thanks to a tutor so doubt surveying would be for me. I do have project management experience though.

THank you all for your help
