In scotsnet as this is a uniquely Scottish problem - apologies if there's a politics area somewhere that I should be in.

My postal vote has been sitting staring at me for days.

I know who I don't want to get in. As a non-scots British person with an English DH, I'll do everything I can to avoid another referendum.

Our local Labour MP actually does a lot for the local community and seems like a good egg. But the overall party is a disaster and SNP are talking about going jointly with Labour so they can push through another independence vote.

I cannot bring myself to vote Tory after what they've done - also every time they think up a remotely fair taxation idea i.e. making self employed pay same taxes as employed or making rich OAPs pay for care, even though Ruth Davidson seems very different from the conservatives in England, can't bear to watch the Westminster crowing when/if they get a huge victory.

My heart says Lib-Dems and in fact I've done some campaigning for them at local level, but pre voting questionnaires seem to suggest it's a 3 way race between Lab/Con/SNP so it would be a wasted vote.

Is anyone else really struggling to decide for this election?

Result!!!!

Redglitter · 09/06/2017 04:44

My SNP FB friends have gone strangely quiet 🤔

trixymalixy · 09/06/2017 05:09

I wonder can Scotland try and get back to a bit of normality. Can we see a bit more humility from the snp at Westminster and less of the cock strutting?

QueenLaBeefah · 09/06/2017 05:44

The SNP had got unbearably arrogant and deserved to be taken down a peg or two.

MacarenaFerreiro · 09/06/2017 06:24

Not happy about the huge parliament. Uncertainty not a good thing and I would rather it had been clear one way or the other.

However. Am fucking DELIGHTED that Salmond and Robertson are out on their ears and that Jo Swinson won here :-)

CocoaLeaves · 09/06/2017 07:17

I think the hung parliament is an interesting result. I am not a JC fan at all, but he did a phenomenal amount of campaigning and talked to lots of people. Maybe that is a good thing if more people are involved in politics and there is a credible opposition.

There is clearly a different political debate going on in Scotland though, than England. Many people down south don't understand that there are different issues at play here.

CocoaLeaves · 09/06/2017 07:18

Also glad that JS wonSmile

HamletsSister · 09/06/2017 07:38

Can't stop watching the clip of Salmond getting the boot.

MacarenaFerreiro · 09/06/2017 08:14

macarena, did you actually mean to say this? and that Sheikh woman

Absolutely - in the same way as I would refer to "that Sturgeon woman" or "that Mhairi creature".

weebarra · 09/06/2017 08:27

Well, Midlothian has gone back to labour. My parents will be delighted about Jo Swinson though.

NoLotteryWinYet · 09/06/2017 09:12

Although I imagine any group could be energised to vote if offered a massive investment along the lines that students have with 'free' tuition, but it's good for the union overall to not have a huge Tory majority.

ssd · 09/06/2017 09:36

you sound lovely macarena...so if your kids teacher referred to your child as that creature this would be fine with you?

OOAOML · 09/06/2017 09:49

I think it's good that there is no overall mandate for May's 'I'll shoot myself in the foot, just watch me' hard Brexit. And if she needs to rely on Scottish Tories and the DUP then she may wish that Cameron hadn't pushed for EVEL.

Close in my seat - I did go SNP at the end, it was a tighter result than I thought it would be but so relieved we don't have the useless Tory candidate. Yet another letter from Ruth Davidson last night, a page of A4 but only one policy (stopping independence) so if that does come off the table for the foreseeable future it will be interesting to see what else the Scottish Tories do.

Hopefully we will see a bit more effort at consensus in Westminster now, rather than May's hectoring. And frankly she only has herself to blame for this, she didn't need to call the election.

NoLotteryWinYet · 09/06/2017 10:24

i'm coming around to the idea this was the best of all possible outcomes - no mandate for hard brexit, no mandate for austerity, no mandate for independence and no overwhelming mandate for all of Corbyn's huge basket of spending commitments.

If we can find some middle ground, the next choices could be considerably better - we can hope at least!

trixymalixy · 09/06/2017 12:02

I don't know about that. I'm not liking the sound of the DUP, not that I know that much about them.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 09/06/2017 12:18

They are dreadful.

And all the protest votes for SNP help ensure their power..so thanks everyone

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 09/06/2017 12:19

For Tories against SNP

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 09/06/2017 12:19

No indyref but a far right government. Way to go.

NoLotteryWinYet · 09/06/2017 13:19

You can't seriously think either the Tory-DUP alliance will last or they'll be able to push through brexit? There's another election around the corner I suspect.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 09/06/2017 13:21

Hope so

MorrisZapp · 09/06/2017 13:29

Oh come on. As if anyone knew the DUP would come into this. If the SNP had voted for Corbyn he'd be in talks now to form an anti austerity government in Westminster so can we blame you for the Tory/DUP shitshow please?

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 09/06/2017 13:31

I said several times I have never voted SNP

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 09/06/2017 13:31

I am a Labour voter.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 09/06/2017 13:32

Still fucked off at people making this all about indyref2 and letting Tories in. And now DUP.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 09/06/2017 13:32

The DUP will only be interested in anything which prevents the possibility of a united Ireland. It is scare mongering to think they will have any effect on mainland social policy.
