The 2017 Exams thread.

I think we all found the thread last year useful and supportive so I've set this one up for us all to share our woe, angst and (hopefully) joy for the 2017 exam season. I'm also trying to have something on Scotsnet that isn't politics. I'm trying to avoid that tbh as it just all makes me too angry...

Anyway, I have two going through it this year, DS1 in 5th year sitting 5 Highers and DS2 in 4th year sitting 7 Nat5s.

Studying has been underway since the prelims ended. They are doing 3 x 25 minute Pomodoro sessions on weekdays and 4 sessions each day at the weekend. To be honest it's mainly been used for the coursework up until now but the last piece is due in today for DS1 and DS2s is all in now so proper study can commence.

How is everyone feeling?

Dd is gutted but it's been rearranged to Sept!

She applied to do a psychology higher as part of her time table at college. She's to get a B in English and she is in. So she's delighted with that.

She however is bored with only 2 subjects just now. Yesterday my doorbell went and it was a soaked guy from dominoes delivering pizza. I nearly sent it away but 5 mins later Dd and her pals turned up to eat it! Warned her not to do that on my weigh in day again x

Ha ha Groovee, happy memories of 6th year! DD has 12 free periods a week! She is going to go to Starbucks tomorrow after being told off today for talking and eating in the school library. I did point out you're not meant to do either in libraries. They don't get access to the S6 common room until August for some reason.

Yeah dd's year paid for their common room today! Sooner they paid the sooner they got it.

However the DHT was most amused to find Dd in the social area with her blanket and pillow. Caused great amusement amongst many staff too.

This will apparently be the last year that the S6s have a common room as after next year the room will be taken over as a classroom due to the school's increasing roll (lots of placing requests). for next year's 6th years and for the fact that the school is popular.

Haven't seen ds' timetable in detail, but I do know he's pissed off at having to go in tomorrow for registration, even though he has free periods until 11.40. He says that he can't even do "homework" or "revision" as the only lesson he has had so far is one period of Modern Studies when they had an introduction to "democracy" and the teacher asked if they knew how to vote in local elections. He didn't seem to realise that 6 in his class were S6s and had actually voted in the council elections (let alone that some of the S5s would also have been able to vote) (ds thinks that that is the first question he should have asked )

He apparently has to have 95% attendance to go to the Prom next year - and even though he's always been much higher than that, he's worried that he might miss signing in for a free period.

My dd's tutor teacher has passed away! It's been a very distraught day for her. She only had SE, so a lot of taking was done by the classes. They had only been told the teacher was having surgery. She was very loved and it was so unexpected for them. The school seem to be really supporting as it must have been a shock for them to lose such a young colleague. Such a hard start to S6 😢

How is everyone's kids feeling about tomorrow? I'm so worried about my results it's scary to think my future hangs in the balance!!
