I think we all found the thread last year useful and supportive so I've set this one up for us all to share our woe, angst and (hopefully) joy for the 2017 exam season. I'm also trying to have something on Scotsnet that isn't politics. I'm trying to avoid that tbh as it just all makes me too angry...

Anyway, I have two going through it this year, DS1 in 5th year sitting 5 Highers and DS2 in 4th year sitting 7 Nat5s.

Studying has been underway since the prelims ended. They are doing 3 x 25 minute Pomodoro sessions on weekdays and 4 sessions each day at the weekend. To be honest it's mainly been used for the coursework up until now but the last piece is due in today for DS1 and DS2s is all in now so proper study can commence.

How is everyone feeling?

Same here wankers we seem to have a lot in common ( I think we live/work in the same area too actually)
Ds isn't 16 until January. He was young to be sitting his Nats and don't think it has done him any favours.

prettybird · 17/05/2017 22:10

Ds is going to break up his studying for his Geography Higher with trips to the gym. (He went this afternoon as part of his post exam de-stressor).

He's very confident about it: his teacher has been giving them weekly tests since the start of the year, so he's been revising as he goes along.

He's still going to do two topics a day - but he'll be having plenty of relaxing time too. Smile

Last exam next Friday then a week off before starting his S6 timetable.

WankersHacksandThieves · 17/05/2017 22:12

I think we do demented :)

It is a shame for the young ones - thankfully mine were both born in the summer so they are mid age (once deferred kids are added in) and I didn't have the hard decision of whether to put them to school or defer.

My two are both quiet, too quiet probably but it's swings and roundabouts really as at least we know where they are.

I'm ready for Dd to go back to school 😂. She finishes on a Tuesday. Think she's having a chilled week then the week after she's doing Work Experiemce with her godmother in her P2 class.

Panicking about Chemistry this morning, anyone else? Confused

prettybird · 18/05/2017 09:17

Ds did Chemistry last week Confused

WankersHacksandThieves · 18/05/2017 09:25

Chemistry was the 8th, was that a typo?

ttlshiwwya · 18/05/2017 09:56

GCSE hopefully?

weegiemum · 18/05/2017 11:35

It's Classics today (dd1 has gone to meet her best friend and go for lunch after the exam).

Next week I'm going to make her work for Art and Gaidhlig, the big gap in between exams isn't working out as well as her evenly-spaced Nat5s last year!

Fional12 · 18/05/2017 12:39

Yes Chemistry this morning, I'm dying to know how my DS got on. He was more worried about his hair on the way to school than his exam!!!! I just kept quiet! He hasn't done enough revision on the 3 science subjects but we did agree science was the one subject we wouldn't worry too much about.

Anyone else feel their stress is completely irrational over these exams?! I'm just worrying about how he's coping and I hope he's not too disappointed if he doesn't do well and that we'll love him no matter what! But on the flip side I want to shake him and scream...'get on with your revision!!!' at the same time!!

Alcohol and my dog going to have to get me through this!

Roll on 22nd June, I'm already working out what I'm going to drink and eat that night lol!

Good luck all parents xxxx

prettybird · 18/05/2017 12:54

This exam thread is in Scotsnet hence the confusion! Grin

All the SQA (Scottish) exams will be finished by 2 June. Then it's just the angst of the wait until early August.

WankersHacksandThieves · 18/05/2017 12:58

Aww Fiona, you are going to end up on this thread by yourself soon as this is in Scotsnet and our DC are either finished exams or about to be finished. Ours will be back at school at the beginning of June and looking forward to finishing for the summer at the end of June.

I'm not saying you are not welcome here, just wondering whether you'd be better starting a new thread in the main board as we won't be sitting the same exams at the same time - hence the confusion about Chemistry. Chemistry was nearly two weeks ago up here.

Thanks for the best wishes, same to you, hope your DS does well and feel free to stick around for the drinking and stressing :)

oh whoops lol!!!!!!!!

New to this site, thanks for letting me know, you lucky things!

WankersHacksandThieves · 18/05/2017 13:17

I think we all feel like we've been through the wringer by now. There may be another thread going in the Education/Secondary Education forum. Otherwise feel free to hang out here and we'll give as much help and sympathy as we can but you wont get feedback on how our DC felt about the same exams that your DC is. We tend to find that useful :)

Exam results day here on 8th August. Might have no fingers left by then as I'll have gnawed them off! :o

weegiemum · 18/05/2017 13:31

My dd1 isn't even going to be here on results day, she's going to Soul Survivor, a christian youth festival, and will have to phone us with her results!!!

Luckily dd2 will be here for her music result!

WankersHacksandThieves · 18/05/2017 14:36

Last year the results were on DS2s birthday but it was only DS1 getting results. I worked from home and DH was off that day so we were all at home for the grand unveiling :). This year they are the day before DS2s birthday and they both have results arriving. I can't work at home so in the interests of fairness I think I'm going to have to take exam day and birthday off work. DS2 reckons the results are going to ruin his birthday - he's a glass half full person :o

OP posts:
dementedma · 18/05/2017 21:58

results this year on our 30th wedding anniversary, so that's scuppered any plans for celebrations! more of a long service medal than a celebration mind you.

seb1 · 18/05/2017 22:16

Having heard for ages the advantage that turned up out of doing Higher English, Maths, Chemistry, Physics & Computing Science was an early finish is now........ what I am going to do everyone is still studying Grin

Superjaggy · 19/05/2017 07:10

Good luck to all DCs doing Modern Studies today! Higher Modern for my DS, then he's done. Will let him have a chilled weekend then he has to go out and find himself a wee job to take him through 6th year and pay for his driving lessons Smile

Groovee · 19/05/2017 07:13

Dd is sitting Higher Modern Studies today. She's ok about. I made her a fruit bowl and she's eaten it but she was talking no sense 😂. That will be 4 down with one to go.

LordPercy · 19/05/2017 08:34

DD has N5 Mods today. I made her get up to give her Dad his birthday present and she's back and bed snoring again so I guess she's not too stressed 🙈😂

WankersHacksandThieves · 19/05/2017 08:44

DS2 has nat 5 this afternoon too. It's his last (and favourite) exam. He is up and in the shower now as we have the hospital this morning too. Busy busy.

OP posts:
weegiemum · 19/05/2017 11:17

Hope Moddies goes/went well for everyone!

Groovee · 19/05/2017 13:05

Dd said the last question threw her as she was convinced another topic would be in this year. But she said the other questions were pretty good and her timing was spot on.
