I think we all found the thread last year useful and supportive so I've set this one up for us all to share our woe, angst and (hopefully) joy for the 2017 exam season. I'm also trying to have something on Scotsnet that isn't politics. I'm trying to avoid that tbh as it just all makes me too angry...

Anyway, I have two going through it this year, DS1 in 5th year sitting 5 Highers and DS2 in 4th year sitting 7 Nat5s.

Studying has been underway since the prelims ended. They are doing 3 x 25 minute Pomodoro sessions on weekdays and 4 sessions each day at the weekend. To be honest it's mainly been used for the coursework up until now but the last piece is due in today for DS1 and DS2s is all in now so proper study can commence.

How is everyone feeling?

LordPercy, did your dd speak to any friends who did the Nat5 physics? Ds's friends all found it hard, just wondering about any other school.

WankersHacksandThieves · 19/05/2017 16:08

DS now finished after Nat 5 Modern. He says they had mainly focussed on the US in class for one area but the question was all about the EU. He momentarily panicked but then realised there was enough information given for him to extract the answers for and put it into the answer structure he knew so he is overall happy enough. Other than being annoyed that very little of what they have studied came up so he feels he has wasted his year :o

never mind Smile

weegiemum · 19/05/2017 16:49

How many still to go. I think we're last finished on 2nd June?

IndigoApple · 19/05/2017 17:06

Human Biology next Tuesday then that's it for us Smile.

wankers glad I'm not the only one thinking ahead to August 8th! Thinking of sourcing some valium! For me that is. DD will be OK. Can't imagine having 2 lots! Will hopefully be able to work from home as usually out of the house before 8am.

LordPercy · 19/05/2017 17:27

DD thought Mods was okay...like she's basically said for every exam so far. She's keeping her cards close to her chest unlike DS1 whose face you can read like a book after every exam.

She's got Engineering Science next Thursday and that's all hers done. DS1 finished last week but still hasn't officially left school. I have told him there's no S7 and he has to leave 😂.

Results day this year is thankfully the only year they both get results. Next two years will be just DD then we have a gap of....eh...5 years until DS2 has N5 exams 🙈

Superjaggy · 19/05/2017 17:45

DS thought Higher Modern was fine, and he saw his teacher afterwards who seemed to think he'd approached everything in the right way. He's now in the funny place where he has nothing to do and feels a bit lost. We've agreed to say no more about it until 8th August....

Groovee · 19/05/2017 17:59

Biology on Tuesday.

WankersHacksandThieves · 19/05/2017 18:00

DS1 still has Higher engineering next week and then that's him done. Just had the email about the s6 conference which will be his first 2 days of school after the exams.

I'm dreading results day, I suspect it will be a game of two halfs with DS1 having done very well with virtually no work and DS2 hopeful of just passing and having worked a good bit more. That's another reason I want to be home. DS1 won't crow, but DS2 might need jollying up though I have everything crossed for him.

I've told him to put it completely out his mind now and enjoy the summer as there is nothing that worrying can do. What will be will be.

Glad everyone seems to be doing ok!

Still 2 more to go here, next Thursday and Friday. DD has had no exams this week which has been a bit of a curse as she appears to have done very little studying!

I can see there being a big panic next week! Hmm

readsalotgirl63 · 19/05/2017 21:13

DD finished today with AH Mods - thought it was ok and managed to get in a reference to Watergate which she knew about because I made her watch All the President's Men not very long ago. Grin. Handed in leavers form so now just have to wait till August 8th - everything crossed ! Have to say I'm glad it's all over - don't think I could cope with doing all this more than once so Wine to all of you with multiple dcs. Good luck to everyone- see you all near results day

weegiemum · 22/05/2017 11:46

Anyone got anything on today? Neither dd1 or any friends seem to have anything.

Realise I'm going to be hanging around like billy-no-mates until the end again this year!

IndigoApple · 22/05/2017 12:04

There is something today. RPMS I think? School holiday here today. DD feeling cheated as she's off anyway!

Groovee · 22/05/2017 12:17

School off here only those sitting RME are allowed in. Biology tomorrow. Dd not looking forward to it.

WankersHacksandThieves · 22/05/2017 12:36

This week's programme is:
Rmps today
Biology tomorrow
Accounting, sociology, and health and food on Wednesday
Italian and engineering on Thursday
Geography Friday.

Just engineering left to go in my house.

weegiemum I'll be here until June 2nd as my DS2 has his last then - he's three Hs still to go. Two this week and one the next.

He's had a 2 week gap which I though would be good but he's not exactly knocked himself out studying these past two weeks. I hope he doesn't regret this.

weegiemum · 22/05/2017 16:31

ttlshiwwya similar here, dd1 has done very little since her busy first week but tbh theres not a lot left to do. She's sitting round the house being "bored" today. She has nothing this week but Art and Gaidhlig next week.

From my own pov I'll be interested to hear how Geog goes. I used to be a Geog teacher and exam marker, and love to hear about the paper!

LordPercy · 22/05/2017 19:16

DD has engineering science on Thursday not seems to have lost momentum in the whole studying thing since she has almost a weeks grace and it's her last exam.

DS1 still hasn't left S6 but apparently will leave on June 1st as that's when the leavers hoodies arrive - 2 birds and 1 stone and he's lazy

prettybird · 22/05/2017 19:35

Ds has been studying two topics a day for his Geography exam since his Physics exam last week). This is on top of having had weekly tests from the beginning of S5.

He says he's getting bored as it's all just memory and no analysis (one of the reasons he went off doing Geography at Uni).

It's the one he's most confident of an A for, as it is just memory and he's not going to be surprised by strange questions.

ttlshiwwya · 22/05/2017 20:14

weegiemum I'll let you know what my DS2 thinks of the geography paper. He needs at least a B and might even choose earth sciences as his 3rd first year subject if he makes his uni offer. I am bit worried about the assessment part - they went to Edinburgh and he appeared to have spent his time in the shops, Costas and Pizza Hut.

IndigoApple · 22/05/2017 21:19

DD has Human Biology tomorrow. It's really interesting. Stem cell research, clinical trials, obesity crisis and impact of handwashing on c. difficile. Shame no advanced higher!

ttlshiwwya · 23/05/2017 08:56

My DS2 has Human Biology too today. He misses the plants and animal stuff so is looking forward to the wider AH Biology

Groovee · 23/05/2017 09:29

Dd sitting Biology. Sadly she's been distracted by the tragedy in Manchester. Hoping she can concentrate enough x

WankersHacksandThieves · 23/05/2017 09:45

Hope so Groovee good luck to her and all DC sitting today.

Whilst the news has an affect on us all, I think it will particularly resonate with young girls given the event and the likely victims.

weegiemum · 23/05/2017 14:49

Yes, good luck to biology sitters today.

My dc are all upset by the news from Manchester, especially dd1 who loves concerts and all her free money goes on tickets to this, that and everything. I'm glad she's home with me - she's 17 and a half but has needed a lot of reassurance.
