Leith primary or st marys rc leith

Hi just wondering if anyone's can give me ideas about the schools. Dd is at St marys nursery (also how did your dc experience the nursery ) but she's not rc I know I can still apply but she won't take priority. I am really unsure which to apply to as I've not liked certain aspects of dd life at st marys for the past two yrs. Would love to hear about your experiences of both schools. I've posted on local and primary school but no replys so last ditch

Can you apply to both? I know one of our parents planned to do that last year in nursery and got her catchment RC one.

If I apply to rc and no spaces dd.will automatically get a place at the other one. So am just going apply for the rc

Ds used to go to Leith and it is a wonderful school. We both still miss it - we moved away a few years ago. Diverse, positive, some fantastic teachers and a great HT. That said, I've never heard anything against St Mary's - but if you are not Catholic, do you really want your child to be at a Catholic school?

No experience of the schools in question but my db chose to send his twins to the local Catholic school (because the building looked nicer, despite the non-denom, admittedly in a cramped Victorian building, having a brilliant reputation not that they looked into it ). He then complained to us that they were being taught to cross themselves and then was absolutely shocked that at Easter, even the P1s were taught that Christ had nails put through his hands on the cross

I am more worried about spitting dd with her friends. She takes a while to make friends and get used to somewhere the thought of her going though that again is a sad thought

I think when you're looking at school transition you have this impression of a full nursery class moving up into a full primary school class, but it isn't really like that. You have all the kids coming in from private, people in your situ looking at change, people moving into the area, people who just went to the nearest nursery moving to RC and vice versa... Primary 1 teachers are very aware of this and good at sorting out friendship groups, etc. Try not to worry about friends.
