DD is going into P2 Shock

I can't believe this time last year she was just starting. Now she is really ready to go back so am I Blush

We've to pick up the (gosh, I've forgotten the word.... custom? school embroidered) jumper, cardigan and outdoor learning stuff on Thursday. Hoping to hell it all fits. MIL has promised to buy her a lunchbox and then that'll be us!

I would go with Adam Smith. Grant Court sounds like what niece was in and as she didn't get on with 3 of the other girls, she's looking forward to this year.....Wink

onlyevertartanjammies · 08/08/2016 21:45

Hijack away I'm steering DD into plumbing as we speak Wink

Beautiful night tonight. I let DD stay up for ages... it even started to feel a bit autumnal though.

Fingers crossed for everyone tomorrow!

My dds are going in to p1 and p3, youngest is a late Feb birthday and we had the option to defer. I'm starting to worry we've made a mistake sending her, she's still quite babyish, but I suppose time will tell. I'm going to be a wreck next Wednesday!

Lidlfix · 09/08/2016 22:36

Redyoyo it's a tough choice. Had a Feb born DD too. Her nursery told me she'd be bored senseless (academically though that's not word) and was socially able too for P1. Was youngest of 4 DDs

Academically she has excelled. Socially she has mostly been fine though as one of the youngest has ended up in composites at times which has impacted on her friendships.

She did look very young going to "big school" and feels embarrassed at lack of boobage etc. But has made lovely friends and coped as well as big sis DD3 who is only 1 school year ahead as she's a March birthday.

I don't regret it, have friends with Jan/Feb DC (particularly DS's anecdotally) who have deferred and feel the same. You know your DD and what is right for her.

As a secondary teacher the only time I saw a significant difference was when early presentation in Maths and English in S3 as prelims were being sat by 13 year olds. But that was the olden days Smile.

Redyoyo · 09/08/2016 23:23

Thanks lidl, my eldest is also Feb birthday and she was much more ready for school than her sister. I think she'll get on ok and her sister will be in the class next door to spy for me, I suppose someone has to be the youngest.
I will be cracking out the rescue remedy for my nerves though Confused

Ds is a very late December birthday and the youngest in his year. Academically he has been fine, but struggled socially and had comments such as "immature" on his report card from time to time. As soon as he celebrates one birthday ,eg turns 14, all of his mates start turning 15. He's always the baby.
He will only be 15 and 4 months when 4th year ends and could, technically be at uni when only 17 which I think is too young. Maybe should have deferred him, with hindsight but too late now.

onlyevertartanjammies · 11/08/2016 18:05

Picked up DD's uniform today and it all fits. Thank God.

She saw her teacher from last year and got a massive hug. Our school isn't announcing which teacher is taking which class until Monday morning- is that common?

Not at our primary school it's not, the kids are told before the summer holidays start.

WankersHacksandThieves · 11/08/2016 18:12

Ours were always told before the holidays started, and they all got a chance to spend time with their new teachers, I think they usually do it while the P7s are on their induction days.

Cocoabutton · 11/08/2016 18:21

Yes, DC here know their teachers before the holidays.

hidingwithwine · 11/08/2016 18:25

Back in the day we used to know our next class around the Easter holidays. Now due to penny pinching and associated nonsense we tend to find out within the last fortnight of term. We do manage to do meet the teacher before the end of term but it's been a very close run thing the last few sessions.

onlyevertartanjammies · 11/08/2016 18:29

Hmmm. I have to say I don't particularly like it, but I asked and the explanation was that they generally have a lot of kids moving in and out over the holidays and it was better to wait rather than to announce it then change.

We know before the holidays , the kids have a " meet the teacher " day and the parents get a letter .

We are a small school with two teachers on secondment so we have lots of new / temporary teachers / probationers . One of my kids has 2 new class teachers , so he hasn't met either of them. He has ASD so don't cope well with uncertainty :-(

Littledafty · 11/08/2016 20:01

I can't wait, juggling work, childcare and entertaining dc's is utterly exhausting.
Always feel I should book a few days off work when they go back just for myself!

Paulat2112 · 11/08/2016 20:03

I am looking forward to them going back! As much as I love them, I am so happy to be back into routine. I have dd going into p4, ds1 going into p1 and ds2 starting nursery the week after. We have changed schools so it's new for them all which is making me nervous for dd. We are pretty organised but do need to go pick up ds1 blazer from school tomorrow on the inservice day. Ds1 is a Jan birthday so really feel he is still my baby lol

hidingwithwine · 11/08/2016 20:37

I'd love to book a few days off after 6 weeks with my 3 dcs however there's about 400 other kids I need to deal with now ConfusedHmm. I am SO not being a teacher in my next life!

LemonBreeland · 12/08/2016 16:13

We find out teachers in the last week of term, although it has been known to change over the holidays. DS2's teacher is going to be off sick at the start of term. No announcement of this just heard it through the grapevine. My heart did sink When I saw he had her as DS1 had her and she was off sick for almost the whole year.

We go back on Tuesday so we are starting earlier bedtimes now to get back into routine.

Groovee · 12/08/2016 16:37

We used to find out after the P1 induction had revealed their teachers.

onlyevertartanjammies · 13/08/2016 21:10

Two more sleeps!

dementedpixie · 13/08/2016 21:12

Ours had a 'meet the teacher' day in the last week of term so they know who their teacher is and who is in their class. Mine don't go back until Wednesday but my sisters kids go back in Monday as they finished up earlier than us

WankersHacksandThieves · 13/08/2016 21:36

Boys and I away on holiday tomorrow, we are not back until the 23rd. I'll be thinking of you all starting the school run while we are lying in the sun sipping cocktails... :o (well just me with the cocktails unless the boys get confused with alcoholic and non alcoholic slushy machine.....)

WankersHacksandThieves · 13/08/2016 21:37

I mean school isn't back until the 23rd - we will be back a week on Sunday :)

RoseDog · 13/08/2016 21:41

3 sleeps to go here! DD going into S1 and DS into P7, they haven't been too bad this holidays thank you Steve Jobs but they need to go back now!!

Well done all the exam results on thread!

Kr1stina · 13/08/2016 21:47

Yeah, I'm not jealous of your sunshine and cocktails Envy
