DD is going into P2 Shock

I can't believe this time last year she was just starting. Now she is really ready to go back so am I Blush

We've to pick up the (gosh, I've forgotten the word.... custom? school embroidered) jumper, cardigan and outdoor learning stuff on Thursday. Hoping to hell it all fits. MIL has promised to buy her a lunchbox and then that'll be us!

BTW , can I ask about the cost of hall fees ?

< eyes university savings account nervously >

Lidlfix · 08/08/2016 08:58

We were £620 per month for 9 months. That was for a self catering en suite room. Kitchen was modern and well equipped but revolting very, very quickly. Confused

Groovee · 08/08/2016 10:58

It will be nice to get back to routine! But got to get resits day out of the way tomorrow x

OhFuds · 08/08/2016 11:36

If my DD gets the grades she needs then for that uni she's £109 a week with a 39 week contract, that's a shared bathroom though. DH wanted her to go for one with a en-suite but we just couldn't afford it.

Age 17 has got to be the most stressful age for me. Between her going to uni, driving my car, nights out etc give me a newborn snuggly baby any day Grin

Lidlfix · 08/08/2016 13:11

Yep DD didn't hit 18 till after Fresher's week Grin. Thankfully she had an unconditional so we had everything in place months in advance.

Leaving her was awful. First few weeks I missed her with an almost visceral ache.

But she had a great first year;lovely friends, enjoys course, joined lots of clubs. Hopefully this year I won't be drifting around the house singing "Slipping Through My Fingers "and making too much dinner!

OhFuds · 08/08/2016 14:12

My DD has just received a email from the uni she had a conditional for, it's saying she's been accepted on the course so I guess the university know her results. At least we know the results tommorow will be good Smile

rogueantimatter · 08/08/2016 14:21

OhFuds - yippee for your DD. Fantastic news. Well done.

Lidlfix · 08/08/2016 14:25

Yay! That takes the stress out the wait. Today is dragging in and I've borrowed an adorable 6 year old to bake with. He laughs at my jokes and wants to Harry Potter not Grey's Anatomy and Geordie Shore. Cake

hidingwithwine · 08/08/2016 14:27

That's great OhFuds Grin

prettybird · 08/08/2016 14:29

Lidl - I still get occasional messages from random people on Facebook (I have a very distinctive surname) asking after my mum as they remembered her with affection. I have to tell then what happened but pass their nice comments on to my dad. She retired c.25 years ago Shock!

My dad got an email via the BMA from a doctor who she'd taught for a scant 2 months at Lenzie Academy, describing how she'd stood out and how she'd given him a lifelong love of English. He'd sought dad out after seeing an article about her accident and subsequent NHS treatment in the Herald.

You can make a difference. You've already given fantastic advice in here - I'm sure you're even better in real life! Smile

I am now at the point where we need the routine of school again. Mine are going into S2, P5 and P1.

DD is ready to start P1 but it's a little strange for me. I have been looking forward to it as life will get easier but it is going to bee a big change not having one at home

TheScottishPlay · 08/08/2016 14:32

DS is 12 going into S1. We've had a chilled holidays with away days and short breaks when we've all been off together.
We went school clothes shopping yesterday and it was surprisingly relaxed. He looks so grown up in his new clothes.

OhFuds · 08/08/2016 14:35

Thanks everyone, she needed to get A A A B, in her prelims she got A A A C so she worked hard to get that C to a B....she might have even got it to a A Shock I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Now I need to persuade my 13 yr old that he needs to come school trouser shopping with me.

Lidlfix · 08/08/2016 14:43

Thanks Prettybird, It was the disappointment of my English when I left at 16 that rung in my ears and prompted me to retrain. Don't hear my voice when I'm teaching MacCaig poems but his.

My DD's news book entry about doing her homework and mummy doing her's too was cute. Felt like a better role model than when I was stuck in a boring job that I hated.

But apparently my revision session on Duffy where I pointed out the oral sex imagery to DD2's friends was a Pure Beamer.

WankersHacksandThieves · 08/08/2016 14:53

I could never teach so I admire those that can and do - especially the ones that are good at it!

I love my teenagers but I couldn't cope with anyone else's.

onlyevertartanjammies · 08/08/2016 14:54

Congratulations Fuds Flowers Well done her.

Massive gulp at the cost of halls. Christ almighty Shock

Grin Grin

This time next week it'll be done and dusted. Woohoo. Glasgow go back on a Monday and I feel it's going to be a looooooong old stretch to Friday though.

We're not back until Tuesday 23rd - half a day shy of 8 weeks this summer.

prettybird · 08/08/2016 15:15

Tartanjammies - ds is complaining bitterly about that. Not only is it a whole 5 day stretch rather than easing them back in, but Mondays and Tuesdays are "long" days (school finishes at 3.50 rather than 3), so will be even more unbearable Hmm

rogueantimatter · 08/08/2016 15:48

Wednesday 17th in East Dunbartonshire. Gently eased in...... hopefully.

Kr1stina · 08/08/2016 15:54

I can't remember when we last had a Monday start to the new session, it's been midweek for years. I fear it will be hard on the P1s and S1s.

I suspect Ds aged 12 will arrive home for the first few days and throw himself on to the sofa in exhaustion, just like he did in P1. Or pick a fight with his brother .

Thankfully we have another week before after school activities start again, as he doesn't get home from them until nearly 8pm . I've REALLY enjoyed doing less taxi driving this summer .

Well done to Fluds DD .

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/08/2016 16:00

Dd is going into P2 - slightly stressed as her school shoes aren't available yet.

She brought home her news book at the end of term, and I am surprised social services never got in contact one day we had punched her in the head, and another we had starved her. Apparently she also had croup and chickenpox Hmm

Kr1stina · 08/08/2016 16:08

LIdl and Fuds

Thanks for hall fee info - it's much as I feared , basically £6k per year < yikes >

The thing that gets me is all the posters on the Higher education board saying that they give their child £100 per week on top of hall fees for " food, travel and social life " Shock

DH and I don't spend that ourselves, we both have good jobs and are "comfortable " That seems a great dal of money to me . I'm happy to pay for food and travel and a little for going out , but Iif she wants to go out and spend £75 a week on her social life she can bloody well go out and earn it .

Or AIBU?

Kr1stina · 08/08/2016 16:10

Very impressed at a p1 who can spell both these illnesses Grin

Top marks for spelling AND creativity

WankersHacksandThieves · 08/08/2016 16:20

:o Itsall

and YANBU re spending money. there is absolutely no reason that a student can't be working part time while studying in order to fund their social life. Maybe not so easy in the latter years but certainly initially. Also if they are working they aren't spending so need to earn less as well to fund socialising. Makes sense innit?

OhFuds · 08/08/2016 16:37

I agree Kr1stina, I start to read the threads but stop because we don't have the money to be giving out left, right and center for "extras" and seeing what other parents are giving to their dc's makes me feel shit that I can't do the same. From now on tho every bit of birthday money/xmas money my younger ones get are going straight in a bank account that they will get when old enough instead of buying plastic tat.
