Cheap weekend away in Scotland?

Wasn't sure where to put this, here or in the travel section.
I'm looking to go away somewhere for a few days, preferably somewhere rural ish but still with things to do but needs to be as cheap as possible.
We have a toddler and a baby and live in Edinburgh, suggestions please?

Nydie Farm near St Andrews has gorgeous Woodward. It's close to all St Andrews has to offer and is also near a berry picking farm park and a deer centre. Lovely family atmosphere and Woodward near warm shower block. Easy stroll to Strathkinnes if you don't want to bbq or local take always will deliver. Not expensive, stunning location and close to lots of free or inexpensive toddler friendly attractions.

Stirling. It's on the train and bus line and we usually stay in the premier inn for about £40 a night.

Aviemore would be good if you can find a bargain lodge or caravan etc. loads to do in the area for kids including the beach at Loch Morlich , the mountain train and walks and the landmark centre, highland wildlife park, highland folk museum - think this might still be free, soft play at the Coylumbridge plus swimming pool in the Aviemore centre etc.

What's your dates and I'll see if there is anything decent about?

Second Aviemore - it is just stunning up that way this time of year. The Hilton Columbridge can be excellent value - they often have offers for "toddler breaks" with dinner and b&b for a family for £99 a night. The hotel is a bit tired in areas but the staff are very friendly and the food very good. The setting is beautiful and great for buggy friendly walks- we love Rothiemurchus!

whiteagle the Coylumbridge was the DSs favourite hotel in the entire world :o for many years - we've had some fab holidays there.

We're just back from a weekend stay - you can't beat £130 a night dinner b&b for a family with 2 older primary school DD that eat loads! It is about half the price of Creiff hydro. I think they ate their weight in waffles each morning! My DDs would prob rate it as one of their fav hotels too.

Best breakfasts ever! It's not a deal for us anymore as DSs are giant teenagers - they won't share a double bed and the bunks are too small - they can't lie out straight! and we have to pay for all their meals and as they eat more than me, a childs meal doesn't cut it - they are also completely uninterested in getting a balloon sword from the fastest clown balloon modeller I have ever seen, or going to the disco or to the kids club things. Happy happy memories though. We went at least once a year from when they were toddlers until about age 12.

Comrie Croft is a good place to stay - I used to go there a lot when my DDs were little. You can either eco-camp in their wonderful tents and yurts in the grounds, or stay in one of the buildings. It's cheap to stay, and takes about an hour and a half to get to from Edinburgh.

It doesn't have to be weekends, ds isn't at nursery yet so we just have to work around DHs job.
